The UK's top restaurants for Twixmas
That period between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve is known as Twixmas. For most of us it means recovery from gorging on too much food and drink on Christmas Day, while for many others it means meeting up with friends, seeing extended family, entertaining the kids and taking the dog out. If you’re in need of an option or two for Twixmas, then you’ve come to the right place because this guide should help inspire you with choices for dining out over the Twixmas period across the UK.
If you find yourself out with the children in Invergowrie then make sure you’ve booked a table for The Post House Coffee Co. This is a licensed, independent coffee shop and eatery. Offering breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, all dishes are lovingly prepared by a team of experienced chefs. There’s also a beautiful south facing courtyard for al fresco dining with heated, fairy lit pods in the likelihood it’ll be nippy.
This is a beautifully refurbished café serving home-cooked dishes made using the best of local and seasonal produce. The Wellington Farm Shop Cafe is a family-friendly destination with an enchanted playhouse in the garden adjoining the terrace, overlooking the Duke of Wellington’s historic estate. Located between Reading and Basingstoke just off the A33, it’ll make a great pit stop if you’re en route to seeing friends or family, or as a meeting gap in between. There is free parking on-site and a dog-friendly terrace, too. This is the perfect place to meet with friends and family over Twixmas, where you can all enjoy the stunning produce that Wellington Farm Shop has to offer.
Established in 2007, Cobbs was founded out of a passion for supplying quality food with provenance to its customers, as well as providing a platform to the immense volume of artisanal producers on the local doorstep. Cobbs Farm Shop in Hungerford has a massive garden out the back with a play area, which is very popular with young families. A great place for lunch post-Twixmas walk.
Crafty St Martin’s is a cool, independent, family-run coffee shop/restaurant providing brunch, lunch and dinner menus with a passion for excellent coffee and homemade food. All of this comes in a relaxed, stylish and spacious environment with great pride taken in excellent customer service. Expect barista served coffee, homemade pastries including amazing cinnamon buns and doughnuts. Brunch and lunch menus include breakfast buns, avocado toast, and very good burgers. Kid’s menus are also available, as well as a wide-ranging drinks menu, fully licensed serving local craft beer and handpicked wines.
The Coach House has been voted by its customers as Cheshire’s Best Accommodation, the Best Restaurant in Chester and the Best Pub / Bar in Chester! Offering the perfect blend of a traditional (this pub’s been around since 1840) and modern setting, The Coach House is an independent city centre restaurant with eight luxurious rooms upstairs, which will come in handy if you’re visiting loved ones over Twixmas. The head chef and talented kitchen team serve up delicious home-cooked food every day, taking inspiration from the seasons and locally sourced produce. There’s a super Sunday lunch menu, as well as a dedicated vegetarian and vegan menu as well. A hand-selected selection of cask ales, wines, teas and coffees await to compliment the dishes.
One of our favourite places in Cardiff is Kindle – a fire food restaurant with a strong focus on sustainability. Here, the team respects the produce, cooks the whole food, cherishes the entire animal and are masters of the season! All seating is external to the building so you will dine underneath covered pergola’s with hot water bottles and blankets! It’s cosy, delicious and ideal for families as well as those seeking a unique wintery date spot.
