Staycations in recent years have become more popular than ever, with more and more people choosing to holiday closer to home. And why not, when there are so many amazing restaurants and bars around the UK! In this special guide, we’re travelling around the country to pick out some of the best places to eat and drink that will help make your next staycation a memorable one.

Cartmel has become a foodie haven thanks to its Michelin starred restaurants, with L’Enclume the most famous of all. The three Michelin starred restaurant has helped put Cartmel on the map and the new Aulis at L’Enlcume is set to be the most high tech cooking facility in the country. Seating just six people, this is a unique and interactive dining experience going ‘behind the scenes’ of L’Enclume’s kitchen. This will give you real insight into the famed restaurant’s innovative and exceptional culinary creations.
Marlow has become another foodie destination in recent years thanks to Tom Kerridge and in particular his gastropub, The Hand & Flowers. In fact, it’s so good it’s been recognised as the only 2 Michelin starred pub in the UK! There are also 15 bedrooms available here, making it a proper staycation escape.
Boasting a ‘gastronomic getaway’, this is the perfect spot for foodies to enjoy an enriching weekend escape. Sourcing as much local produce, including independent butchers, fishmongers and vegetable suppliers, you’re getting a real taste of the English countryside. The set menus are so well-thought out and take away any fear of missing out when browsing the menu.

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the centre of the idyllic North Coast of Northern Ireland, with the Giant’s Causeway only a stone’s throw away, the Porthole Restaurant at the Bayview Hotel is must. It does have a dedicated kids menu, if you’re staycationing with little ones, while adults will be presented with a plethora of fantastic seafood options (and more), including Irish King Scallops and Greencastle Cod with roast red pepper, chorizo, and confit cabbage.
Soak up the panoramic sea views of the Causeway Coast while lapping up the luxurious haven. We can’t recommend a stay in one of their 25 rooms enough; enjoy a moment of great food, serene settings, and ultimate stress-free tranquility.

The team at Lastra Farm is passionate about great food and drink, and takes pride in creating delicious seasonal dishes and innovative takes on classics using the freshest ingredients and local produce from the local Anglesey larder. Here you’ll find locally caught lobster , crab and seafood when the boats land their catch. Behind the bar, you’ll find a great selection of wine and cocktails, alongside a wide range of local craft beer and cider. The kitchen staff can cater for all dietary requirements, with gluten-free menus available on request, and a variety of vegan and vegetarian options too.

The Heft restaurant sits at the rear of a traditional Lakeland pub, in a 17th century inn, and serves modern British food by the very talented Kevin Tickle, who we interviewed last year as part of our Chef’s Table series. Nicola, Kevin’s wife, is from a family that have continuously farmed the fells and valleys of the Lake District since the 1600s, so it’s a match made in heaven that makes for an unforgettable staycation visit.
Kevin’s intimate knowledge of the surrounding landscape and its environment plays a huge part in The Heft’s menu, as well as giving you detailed insight into what you’re consuming. Enjoy the unique take on modern British food before taking yourself off to bed in the gorgeous inn.
