Right around every corner is a sweet treat waiting to be tried.
We have officially found heaven on earth in the form of Patagonia Chocolates. The artisan ice creamery and hand-crafted chocolatery sit on Rees Street, with a second-floor offering spectacular views of the lake. Get stuck into hot churros with caramel sauce, expertly crafted chocolate bites like the velvety truffles and chocolate bonbons. The chocolate treats are made with 71% dark chocolate, they are then filled with exquisite flavours like hazelnut crème, raspberry, and mango. One stand-out feature at Patagonia Chocolates is the use of real milk. It makes the ice cream more decadent and creamier. You can also get your hands on sorbet, frozen yoghurt and gelato.
Take a refreshing and fruity approach to dessert by visiting Mrs Ferg Gelateria. Using traditional Italian Effe Gelato machines, Mrs Ferg has created 50 flavours of gelato and sorbet for visitors to indulge in. Mix and match flavours to create a combination you love. The smooth and silky sorbet includes flavours like lychee and mango, passionfruit, and elderflower with gooseberry. The wide range of gelato covers everything from affogato to apple pie, lemon meringue to matcha green tea and Bailey’s. We love stopping by Mrs Ferg Gelateria for dessert on the move; it is a great little treat on a balmy afternoon.
Slide on up to the cookie bar and indulge in Cookie Time’s delicious selection of cookie-inspired desserts. The iconic brand has played a key role in many kiwi’s lives, offering sugar hits and nostalgia with every bite. When you visit the Cookie Time store in Queenstown, you will get the opportunity to try giant freak shakes, cookies and cream ice cream, flavoured hot chocolates and cookie S’mores. Our love for the extravagant cookie cakes is unbeatable; we are talking ten layers of chocolate chunk cookies with a sticky layer of gooey marshmallows. Food coma commencing. Throw in a salted caramel flake shake and prepare for an overload of sugar.
Balls and Bangles combine our two favourite things, thick shakes and doughnuts; the creamy, sugar-coated creations are divine. Some would say they are heavenly. The doughnuts are fluffy and fresh, made daily to satisfy those sweet cravings. While you can opt for the classic bag of hot doughnuts dusted with cinnamon, why stop there? The funky range of creative doughnuts includes flavours like Oreo crunch, the pav, Granny’s pie and the glitter bomb which pairs a macaroon with sweets, chocolate cream and fairy dust, all of which goes on top of the doughnut! The next level up is having one of these beauties on top of a shake. There are a variety of shakes to choose from, and they all sound amazing, from double choc to toasted marshmallow, pina colada to banoffee – you will be spoiled for choice.
Ivy and Lola’s are a great little spot for a quick coffee, boozy brunch or dinner with a view. It is also high up on our list for its tasty dessert selection, from the coconut and vanilla semifreddo to a cherry cheesecake with a chocolate oat crumble. Our personal favourite has to be the chocolate terrine with strawberry coulis, nut praline and lemon mascarpone. All of the components work together to create a perfectly balanced dessert, from the bitterness of the lemon to the sweetness of the coulis. We like to pair this dish with a dry white wine! If you prefer liquid desserts, we love the coconut cooler with coconut rum, coconut, lime juice and dried pineapple.
