Whether you are in the mood for a cheeky afternoon bev, an indulgent evening out or a bar crawl around the lake, Queenstown has you sorted.
From floating bars to iconic rooftops, here are the best spots to keep your night exciting.
Expertly mixed cocktails, cold beers and stellar views of the lake and mountain range; we must be at Little Blackwood. The classic yet hip spot sits on the famous Steamer Warf, right on the water’s edge. Take a pew on the deck and bask in the sunset or snuggle up inside by the roaring fire. Little Blackwood is renowned for its cocktails and its cheese and meat platters. Indulge in a spread of Fiordland wild venison and chilli Havarti with a side of water crackers and seasonal jam. Pair your snacks with a tiple, dance with the Devil is a cocktail inspired by the classic long island. It pairs vodka with Hayman’s sloe gin, lychee liquor, Aperol, Cointreau and lemon.
If you are looking for a cosy and intimate night out, Bardeaux is the place for you. We adore this spot, especially on chilly winter evenings. Get a group of friends together or take your significant other out on date night; make sure to claim a seat by the fireplace with a glass of rich red wine in hand. Bardeaux has a legendary wine list that boasts a formidable line-up of local wineries; you name it, they will have it. You will also be treated to a swoon-worthy selection of whiskey and an even more impressive cocktail list.
Experience Queenstown in all her glory by visiting the quirky and exciting Minus 5˚ Ice Bar. The below-freezing locale is a popular spot for its uniqueness, and no need to worry about dressing for the occasion; jackets will be provided! We cannot think of a funkier bar to visit than this place. The walls, furniture and sculptures are all made from ice, and of course, drinks will be served in a glass made of ice too. Try the signature brain freeze cocktail that pairs mango vodka with lychee liqueur topped with pineapple and cranberry juice. You can also get the Fire and Ice Package deal that gets you a cosy seat at Little Blackwood after you visit the ice bar.
Since 1997, Queenstown has kept a secret, The Bunker. The Upstairs cocktail bar with its rooftop deck is easily one of our favourite destinations. Enjoy a taste of New Zealand at the restaurant on the first floor; the menu showcases a variety of local delicacies, red meat and game. Then, migrate Upstairs and watch the sunset as you dabble in the quality craft cocktails. Start with a Bunker classic like the negroni or an espresso martini made with vanilla-infused vodka, coffee liqueur, fresh espresso and Manuka honey. If cocktails aren’t your thing, fear not; you can opt for a top-shelf spirit, beer, or glass of wine.
Queenstown is renowned for its weird and wonderful hospitality scene; Perky’s Floating Bar is one of many memorable locations. The bar is parked up on the lake, happily bobbing away with a killer backdrop. Its allure is irresistible. Warm-up with a steaming glass of mulled wine, or try something locally brewed and slightly crafty with the Altitude Session Sour. When we visit Perky’s, we always opt for the get fed deal; we get our hands on a drink, burger and fries; all dropped to the table. These burgers are absolute beauties, brought to us by none other than Devil Burger. Our go-to is the Devil’s staircase, made with Prime NZ beef, cheese, pineapple, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion and smoky BBQ sauce.
