Where to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in the UK
On 6th February this year Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
To celebrate the anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. If you want to gather your friends and family for this four-day weekend of celebrations, here are the best places you should book into.
Situated in the leafy surrounds of Great George Street, FINT is a central Leeds, Scandi-inspired, independent restaurant. Serving an omni menu using amazing local produce, this is a great spot for brunch, lunch, or evening meal. The regularly changing menus means there’s always something new to be excited about, so whichever day you’re looking to book for over the four-day week – at whatever time – we guarantee you’ll love the celebratory meal and so will your group.
The quintessentially British tradition of afternoon tea is said to have been invented in 1840 by Anna Russell, the seventh Duchess of Bedford. Quite often the Duchess would become hungry around 4 o’clock and would have a long wait for dinner to be served at 8pm. She began to request bread and butter, tea and cakes to be brought to her room late afternoon. This became a regular habit and she began to invite her friends over to join her. Thus the experience of ‘Afternoon Tea’ was born. Almondine’s Afternoon Tea is lovingly handmade daily by a team of pastry chefs. They like to keep to tradition and serve an assortment of finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and preserves, and the piece de resistance – seasonal patisserie miniatures. The colourful array of cakes are served on fine, duck-egg blue china and copious amounts of tea and coffee can be enjoyed. Raise a toast to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and add a chilled glass of beautifully chilled Freixenet Prosecco or if you want to go all out, why not indulge in a bottle of Moet & Chandon Ice NV Champagne?
If you want to celebrate with some great food and company, whilst keeping it traditional, then why not book in for Sunday lunch? One of our favourites is the one you’ll find at The Warren – a multi award-winning, family run, sustainably driven cafe and restaurant serving simple, honest and wholesome food focussing on local, seasonal and organic produce. Located in Carmarthen, The Warren’s Sunday Lunch menu is available 12-3pm and features Organic Beef, Lamb, Pork or Veggie options, as well as Fish Of The Day.
In the heart of Holywood, Joxer brings an intimate dining experience, which is ideal if you’re looking to celebrate in a more reserved manner, but in a place still fit for royalty. Serving speciality coffee, breakfast, brunch, lunch and three late evenings a week, Joxer is inspired by rustic Mediterranean flavours. Expect great wines, classic cocktails and produce supplied by independent local retailers.
Served daily at The Chester Grosvenor since 1882, the tradition of ‘taking tea’ has been enjoyed by many since its launch and is long established as being the finest afternoon tea in Chester.
