It’s Cinco de Mayo, so we’re going to Sydney’s Mejico for our must-try dish this week…

There you’ll find what you might think is just a simple guacamole, but what makes it special is the way it’s made….

Is that the full name?

The clue is definitely in the name as it’s “Table-smashed guacamole, chilli, red onion, lime, plantain chips” on the menu.

Where do you get it?

Mejico Sydney, 105 Pitt Street, Sydney NSW 2000

Why is it a winner?

Guacamole can be the most mundane dish in the world, but when you’re smashing it at the table like they do at Mejico, then it gets taken to the next level. As you watch, your waiter will pour the lime juice into the mortar, add coriander, red onion and chilli, pound it with the pestle, then scoop out the flesh of the freshest of avocados, and bring it all together with a squeeze of lemon. Served with crunchy plantain chips, it’s not only fun to watch, it’s delicious to eat.

Anything else to know?

Mejico is not only serious about serving the freshest of Mexican food, they are super serious about tequila and mezcal too. Not only do they have a huge range on offer, but they also run margarita and tequila masterclasses, where you get to sample different tequilas with a generous serve of the winning guacamole.
