London's best dog-friendly places
London’s great, but with a busy underground and packed streets, it can sometimes be a little dog-unfriendly. Sometimes you and your furry friend just need a bit of time out to take a paws from it all. So we’ve put together a list of dog-friendly restaurants in London where you and your fur-baby can hang out and get some good grub.
The Pig’s Head is just the spot to refuel and rest after a long walk around Clapham Common with your pooch. The striking building is complete with red and white striped awning and seats outside where you can watch the world go by. Not only does this venue look good, but it’s conscientious through and through — it is Clapham’s first carbon neutral pub, where ingredients are all sustainably sourced from regenerative farms and its interior is all kitted out with vintage, antique and second-hand wares. With an attitude such as this, you just know that any furry friends are going to be made more than welcome here!
This lovely, laidback restaurant can be found on leafy Lordship Lane in East Dulwich, which is within walking distance of the sprawling green spaces of Peckham Rye and Dulwich Park. There are dog lovers in abundance around these parts, and you’ll find plenty of presents for pets in the boutiques that line the streets here. Whether it’s a healthy bite, a coffee and a smoothie or a boozy brunch with moreish cocktails that you’re craving, you’re sure to find something to satiate your desires in this bright, welcoming and highly Instagrammable spot.
The Duke of Richmond is a perfect Sunday pub — after all, it was named in the top nine best pubs for a Sunday roast in the UK by Waitrose! You’ll find all the rustic finishes and wooden features that give you that warm feeling inside, plus the food and drinks are of a seriously high quality — the sticky date pudding with salted butterscotch sauce really is to die for! This isn’t somewhere that should be reserved only for special occasions though! You’ll find excellent happy hour deals and themed evenings including Wine Wednesdays…
Although you can’t take your furry pal into the main restaurant, you and Fido can pick up a spot at the window seats in José Pizarro. Here, you can enjoy plates like padron peppers with sea salt, pickled aubergine, and croquetas – just remember to drop some under the table.
There’s nothing we love more than a classic pub and the Red Lion and Sun is a great example of this. With a wood burning fire, classic pub food, and great drinks, and just minutes from Hampstead Heath it’s the pawfect place to bring your little friend after a walk. Even better, if you’ve been out for a Sunday stroll, they do an incredible roast every week, with a range of options from pork belly to veggie nut roast. What more could you want?
Sundays are meant to be family time and The Winchmore makes sure that it’s celebrated the right way. The venue is known for bringing the community together; the friendly atmosphere and everyone-welcome policy means that no one feels left out and that includes your four-legged friends. Another selling point is the famous roast that will exceed your expectations (and be a real treat for your dog), including roast chicken, sirloin of beef, lamb, pork belly and vegan roast. You can always go for a family feast that serves up to four people. If you’re looking for a place to relax and share food with your family, you can’t go wrong with this place.
You’ll find the DarkHorse restaurant and bar conveniently close to the huge green expanse of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Hackney Marshes, which cluster around the serene River Lea. This part of London is full of exciting things to do and see for both humans and four-legged friends alike! At DarkHorse, you can indulge in Northern Italian cuisine in cool and contemporary surrounds with your pet by your side — perfect for those not so keen on pubs or those looking for something a little more special. The menu features tempting plates like Bertha roast black pig chop and fresh papardelle pasta, which can be paired with interesting wines including organic and biodynamic pours.
This chic French brasserie is more than happy for you to visit with your own furry accessory… Gazette Trinity serves up unpretentious French fare in delightful surrounds that are reminiscent of al fresco lunchtime spots in Paris. There are themed evenings throughout the week too: on Mondays you can get steak frites for a very humble price; on Tuesdays you can slurp oysters all day for next to nothing; and finally, Wednesdays are dedicated to steaming kilograms of moules served with your sauce of choice — and more frites, of course!
