Best curry in Leeds

If you’re looking for something a bit sophisticated and stripped back, Thai Edge might just be the place for you. Overlooking Leeds’ Millenium Square, this popular restaurant has been serving up some of the city’s best curries for years. Choose from four set menus; Thai Edge Special, Siam Oriental, Golden Siam Menu, or the Royal Orchid menu, or go all out on the al acarte. Our favourites include the choo chee curry; a choo chee curry paste with egg yolk and coconut cream and either salmon or seabass, or the tiger prawn kari malay cooked in yellow curry paste with potatoes, onions, coconut and spices. They even have their own channel on their website where you can follow the chefs showing you how to make the perfect version of the dish you’ve eaten in the restaurant.

A staple of Manchester foodie culture for a while now, this great Indian street food joint has recently made the trip down the road to Leeds. As their name suggests, Tiffin in their speciality, with dishes like palek paneer, lamb kashmiri and ITR chicken cooked in the chef’s speciality spices being popular. They also do a great veg or chicken biryani, and an Indian take on Chinese food. Honestly, if you’re looking for a curry, you really can’t go wrong with this absolute gem. Add in their signature cocktails, all with an Indian twist like the Bombay Delight, or the Indian Summer Passion, and you’re onto a winner.

This super cool cocktail bar/restaurant is a great place to hang out, hungry or not. Their cocktail list is huge, featuring big hitters like the lychee bellini, strawberries and crack (-ed black pepper guys, what else?) and a coconut and chilli daiquiri. However, it’s the curry we’re here for, of which they have plenty. For the veggies there’s a great selection, including roast cauliflower and pea madras,
Chaophraya, with everything from Thai red duck leg curry to southern Thai king prawn curry for the non-veggies. And if you’re a dessert kinda gal or guy, we have to tell you about the deep fried Japanese donuts which will blow your mind.

This popular chain knows how to do Thai food properly. They have a starters and sharers menu that will more than do the job of whetting your appetite and a wide curry menu. And that’s what we’re here to talk about. The curries. With over ten on the menu, ranging from mild to very hot, you’re definitely going to find something for you. Choose from the classic beef, prawn, chicken or tofu green curry, or go super hot with the beef jungle curry. There’s even a regal choice, with the royal sous vide lamb massaman, a creamy lamb dish that was originally made for the Thai royal family.

A little bit of history first; the cat’s pyjamas is a jazz-age phrase that means something that is the best at what it does. And to be honest, it’s a fitting definition for this cool spot in Headingly. (There’s one in Eastgate too if that’s closer to you.) Much like Indian Tiffin Room, The Cat’s Pyjamas focuses on Indian street food, cooking up delicious dishes from okra fries to butter chicken. Sticking to tradition, the majority of their dishes are suitable for veggies, and there’s a multitude of gluten and dairy free options too. We recommend the punjabi lamb shank which is slow cooked with ginger and garlic, and the chana dahl, a sweet and nutty dish that’s sure to fill you up. Wash it all down with a Jaipur IPA or their famous mango lassis and you’re in for a great feed.

There’s a few Sukhothais around Leeds and have been for over ten years, making them a staple on the area’s food scene. This spot is especially good if you’re looking for a curry at lunch, as they serve an Express Menu, featuring three delicious curries. Their main menu is even more extensive with favourites including the gang sapparod; a fiery red Thai curry, and the gang panaeng, another favourite of the Thai royal family. The decor in here is pretty cool too with lots of gilded gold surfaces, impressive ceiling pieces, and great booths to curl up in as you devour their food.
