A Queenstown Favourite Is Making Its Way To The Big Smoke

Located down a food alley on Searle Lane, the beloved taco joint certainly knows their stuff when it comes to dishing up Mexican fare. What the small hole-in-the-wall venue lacks in size, they certainly make up for in flavour.

Taco Medic is the brainchild of South Island cousins, Ant and Robbie, who come from a self-proclaimed ‘foodie family’, and opened Taco Medic with a passion for bringing authentic Mexican flavours to the shores of Aotearoa. Operating initially out of a rad food truck, the boys set up their first permanent store in Queenstown and business simply boomed. Now, the Taco Medic story is taking flight with their first store in Tāmaki Makaurau set to open on January 21st.

Through trial and error, the Taco Medic menu was finally perfect, divided into Land, Ocean, and Soil tacos, Not tacos, and Nachos – all completely gluten-free. The star of the show has always been their namesake: the tacos, rolled in handcrafted corn tortillas and filled with the freshest local ingredients possible.

Hosting something for everyone, the menu really caters to each and every flavour preference, some favourites including their Ken Tuckyman Chicken taco, Bajaman fried fish taco, Bushman 6-hour braised pork belly taco, and their breaky taco with bacon, egg, and an onion reduction.

Naturally, it wouldn’t be a traditional taco joint without a killer line up of tequila to wash it all down. Traditional and mango frozen margaritas are our top pick, as well as a Sandfly Sangria or a Casamigos Tequila shot if you’re gearing up for a big night.

Not only is Taco Medic itself cheerful, so are the prices! With tacos coming in at $7 a pop (and $5 all day Tuesdays), you’ll be getting South Island prices in the big smoke.

Simple food made exceptional is Taco Medic’s speciality, and one of the reasons they’ve gained such popularity up and down the country. Known to be sold out before their official closing time almost daily, Taco Medic has garnered an almost cult-like reputation for must-try food.

We can’t wait to have some South Island magic in Auckland City. The new store opens up at 130 Ponsonby Road on January 21st, with crowds expected for a few weeks at least. Keep an eye on their site for all the official opening hours so you can get your medic fix!
