Conversion and community

The contemporary space is a converted factory and part of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, which we love here at Dish Cult. The venue is wheelchair user-friendly, as well as child-friendly pre-9pm with highchairs available, meaning everyone can come and have a wonderful time.

Tobacco Factory takes it one step further on the child-friendly front, inviting a different local artist every month to create a new colouring-in page. A brilliant way to support both the local art community and exhausted parents looking to entertain the kids mid-school holidays. How epic! Artists already featured include Jayde Perkin, Patrick Atkins and more.

Farm to fork

The sustainable cafe serves a delicious seasonal vegetarian menu that follows the “farm to fork” mentality very closely. Offerings of hearty, comfort breakfasts include halloumi hash and beans on toast, as well as small plates and sides like buttermilk fried celeriac and kimcheesy fries (yes please!), and mains such as Five Acre Farm pies – we LOVE the menu here.

You can also find a beer fridge full of locally brewed beers from the likes of New Bristol Brewery and Left Handed Giant.

The menu is created using as many ingredients as possible from Tobacco Factory’s own Five Acre Farm near Backwell. It is clear that sustainability is of the highest importance and focus here at Tobacco Factory, as well as championing the small and independent. Its farm shop, found on the ground floor of Tobacco Factory, stocks both its own produce as well as other independent, sustainable produce from local suppliers.

Theatre

Tobacco Factory doesn’t miss a trick with its very own theatre! It is separate from the cafe, but we just had to include it in the piece as we feel we should all support our creative community as much as we can, especially post lockdown! You can expect a diverse programme in this intimate theatre, which provides a range of opportunities for both young and old in the South Bristol and beyond community.

The events at Tobacco Factory are varied and fantastic. They range from photography exhibitions to live music, board game takeovers, quizzes and buzzing Sunday markets. At the market, sustainability is clearly of the utmost importance, and you can expect to find incredible local produce from cheeses to Kombucha to handmade eco-friendly jewellery.

Whether it’s a fun date night of local beer and epic live music, or a family stroll around the Sunday Craft Market, there really is something for everyone that you know will have been locally sourced and supporting the Bristol community. Just keep an eye on the website for event updates and exciting theatre information.
