Wellington was built for long lunches;

the restaurants, cafés and eateries are in a league of their own and we relish the challenge of finding our favourite.

Floriditas
cuisinesInternational

Floriditas offers a globally-inspired menu with fresh, seasonal dishes, using the finest New Zealand produce. Indulge in breakfast, brunch and lunch; the menu has an option for every mood. The green eggs ‘n ham is delicious with honey glazed ham off the bone, asparagus, parsley hollandaise and two poached eggs. The 16-year classic Floriditas fish pie has been perfected over the years; and is not to be missed. Other crowd favourites are the smoked Bostock chicken sandwich and Origin South lamb leg kebab. For those of you who like your long lunches on the boozy side, dabble in a wine from the extensive selection.

Visiting Neo Café is like taking a weight off; the casual and homely café encourages diners to stay awhile and relax. Our friends at Neo specialise in all-day brunch, cabinet salads and in-house baking. The menu changes with the season and each dish are a spin on the classic kiwi café. Pop by on the weekend or for a cheeky mid-week catch-up. Kick the week off on a healthy note with a wellness bowl made with avocado, beetroot slaw, pickled turmeric cauliflower, black rice, and so much more. It’s colourful and packed with fresh flavours and locally sourced ingredients. For a more traditional lunch option, there’s the Neo cheeseburger, bacon and egg butties and the Neo feast – bacon, spicy chorizo, black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms, baked beans and eggs. It’s the ultimate big breaky, served until 3 pm.

Ombra is a beautiful spot, inspired by the informal bacari of Venice, where long lunches are dedicated to tapa-style dishes, wood-fired pizzas and heavenly bowls of risotto. The restaurant is warm, welcoming and intimate; the perfect location for romantic lunch dates and friendly catch-ups. Settle in for an afternoon of beautiful cuisine that’s sure to steal your heart. Share a selection of small plates like the saffron and goat cheese arancini, polenta chips and bruschetta. Or, head straight to the show-stoppers; the sirloin steak is tender and melt-in-your-mouth divine, the slow-cooked duck risotto is unforgettable, and the wild venison meatballs, truly remarkable. Pair your meal with a glass of bubbles, a decadent red or a crisp and refreshing white wine.
