Life is about simple pleasures; indulging yourself in a chocolate dessert has both health benefits thanks to the cocoa’s antioxidant properties, and helps your body release feel-good hormones. If you’ve had a bad day or want to treat yourself, there’s nothing that can boost your mood more than your favourite dessert. Whether you prefer a chocolate brownie or chocolate in a liquid form, there are plenty of places in Bristol that can help satisfy your cravings. Here’s our top 6!
Chew Kitchen is exactly what it sounds like – a friendly space where you can chew on your favourite food in a relaxing atmosphere. All the dishes provided by the restaurant are locally sourced and carefully crafted to please even the pickiest eater. Desserts, in particular, are what make customers keep coming back for more. In our case, it was the delicious chocolate pudding served with clotted cream, and the reason why it’s the first place included in this list. If the pudding isn’t enough to satisfy your craving, you can also order hot chocolate for an extra sugar rush.
A dessert tastes best when it’s served after dinner and as a treat to celebrate a win. Chance & Counters is a quirky place where you can enjoy comfort food (think burgers and fries) and challenge your friends to a board game. If you happen to lose, don’t worry. You can always cheer yourself up with homemade chocolate brownie bites with ice cream, chocolate sauce and a sprinkle of honeycomb. The site is also dog-friendly and wheelchair accessible so everyone can come along.
In the Bible, the Garden of Eden is the symbolic space of perfect harmony which describes the venue well: on the menu, you’ll find high-quality dishes made of locally sourced and seasonal ingredients with a touch of sweet indulgence for dark chocolate lovers.
Mud Dock is a trendy hangout spot that wins locals’ hearts with an interesting location (hosted at a former warehouse) and a calming river view. It’s also versatile; whether you’re planning a romantic dinner or need a relaxing space for a quick pint, the venue will fulfil your expectations. In addition, the homemade desserts on the menu will put you in a good mood straight away. For example, the double chocolate brownie served with ice cream is one of the best ones we’ve tried. Other options include mango mousse and lemon posset but the brownie definitely takes the cake.
Coffee might be most people’s go-to way to wake up in the morning but there’s nothing that can awaken your senses more than the smell of fresh baked goods. If you ever walk past The Bristol Loaf, you’ll find it hard to resist popping inside and treating yourself to something delicious. The artisan bakery specialises in a variety of organic breads, savouries, pastries and cakes, including vegetarian and non-gluten options. If you need a quick snack to eat before work or something to boost your mood, definitely try the freshly made pains au chocolat.
Mrs Potts Chocolate House is an independent family business also known as a chocolate paradise. Inside the cosy cafe, you’ll find all kinds of chocolate-inspired treats: milkshakes, sundaes, cakes, brownies, cookies and hot chocolate, everything is freshly prepared on-site. Additionally, the homely atmosphere can make you feel relaxed and comfortable like sitting under a warm blanket, which makes it the perfect destination for cold winter evenings. If you’re feeling blue and don’t feel like leaving the house, you can also request a delivery straight to your door.

Currently, you can taste the amazing lavender and white chocolate blondies; it might not be your typical chocolate dessert but it’s made of a delicious cocoa powder. Another treat that deserves a mention is the epic chocolate cake that can also be made gluten-free – a perfect combo of all things chocolate. If you want to pamper yourself with food or celebrate a special occasion, definitely give the afternoon tea a go.
The venue has won many awards, including the best café food and the best casual dining, which means you’ll be spoiled for choice no matter what kind of meal you’re going for. Our favourite option is the desserts that will entice all chocolate lovers: the Rocky Road with marshmallows, chocolate and crushed biscuits, brownie with a chocolate sauce and a homemade chocolate cake if it happens to be the vegan cake of the week. The venue is open until 11 pm on a weekday so you can satisfy your craving even late in the evening.

Hoping to find a unique venue for an evening with your friends? Visit Steak of Heart and step into an exciting restaurant concept located in the Harbourside area. Dining at Steak of Heart is a truly multi-sensory experience: the interior is filled with original artwork by local artists that you can admire while waiting for your food, the menu consists of delicious steaks, and lively sounds put you in a good mood.
But what really caught our attention when we visited the restaurant was the tasty chocolate dessert. The rich chocolate mousse is perfectly fluffy and comes with a salted caramel ice cream and homemade honeycomb – not a combo you can ever forget. If you crave more sugar treats, there’s also a fudge brownie with vanilla bean ice cream on the menu. Come for a dinner with a dessert to sweeten it up or stop by for a drink and a sweet treat.
