We at Dish Cult like to consider ourselves as boozy brunch veterans;
we’ve done the rounds, drank our weight in bubbles and dined upon some of the best dishes in all of Wellington. We have created a list of our favourite spots.
The Hudson’s famous brunch is a must-attend event, held every Saturday from 11am – 3pm. We’re sipping the day away with mimosas, Aperol Spritz, house-lagers and pale ales. Gather a group of your best-brunch friends and book yourself a table in advance; this is one of Wellington’s top bottomless spots. Dive into a tall stack of maple syrup-soaked pancakes with fresh fruit, or take the savoury route with an unbeatable classic; eggs benedict. We’re talking perfectly poached eggs lathered in hollandaise sauce; on top of toasted bread. If you find yourself sticking around after your brunch session, we strongly suggest trying a local craft beer from the 16 rotating taps.
Vegetarians rejoice; we’ve found a bottomless brunch spot with you in mind. Mockingbird is a quaint little eatery that explores the flavours found in plant-based street food all across the globe. The brunch menu showcases a range of burgers like the Hawaiian burger with a battered pineapple fritter, facon, melted cheese, beetroot and BBQ sauce in a pretzel bun. Other options include the mouth-watering Philly cheesesteak with seltan ‘brisket’, Moroccan Pide and lo mein noodles. To quench your thirst, there’s sangria, mimosas, craft tap lager and pilsners. Each seating lasts for 2-hours; it’s best to book ahead as this restaurant has a dedicated brunch following.
Boozy brunches and rooftop bars are a match made in heaven; Flamingo Joe’s Bar and Eatery is the ultimate weekend brunch spot. The brekkie menu is a beauty with salmon bagels, smashed avo on toast, acme granola and buttermilk pancakes. You will also find poke bowls; our favourite has to be the spicy Joe with double salmon and avocado, fermented cabbage, mung beans, pickled chilli and rice. To wash our brunch down, we like to treat ourselves to a cocktail or two. Flamingo Joe’s is a tiki-inspired cocktail bar, a few crowd-pleasers up for grabs are the cherry blossom cocktail, the tequila tropical sour and the gingerbread martini.
Brunch and bubbles, we can’t think of a better way to start our Saturday. St John’s Bar and Restaurant will be holding this event on Saturday the 2nd of April from 11 am to 1 pm; book in advance to guarantee a spot for you, your friends and family. Brunch will include a selection of breakfast staples, there will be grazing boards for the tables that will include fresh fruit, baked goods, meat and cheese platters and granola. For the main course, diners can choose between eggs benedict, French onion tartlet and chocolate torte. Although the event is not bottomless, your ticket will get you a piccolo bottle of bubbles, a glass of sangria and diners will get special access to discounted drinks.
Morning, noon and night; The Borough has us covered. We love visiting this spot all year round, the sun-soaked courtyard is perfect for summer and the interior is warm and cosy for the colder days. The brunch menu consists of all our favourites; eggs your way, eggs benedict, smashed avo on toast and The Borough brekkie. The latter includes pork sausages, bacon, roast mushrooms, hash browns, eggs, roast tomatoes and sourdough toast. The Borough offers $7 mimosas all day on Saturdays; they also have boozy banoffee milkshakes that go down a treat after brunch.
