This pub is pretty serious about beer: it is, after all, home to 20 keg and cask taps as well as a bottled selection of over 100 beers! The bar staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic and the decor is incredibly welcoming. With charming wooden counters and floors, and comfy red leather booths, you’ll feel right at home as you kick back and enjoy a cold beer. If beer doesn’t tickle your fancy, their wine and spirit menu is extensive and if you’re peckish, why not sample some of the top-notch food on offer – from hot dogs to burgers (with most dishes starting at £7) no one will end up hungry – or thirsty!

Located centrally, Brewdog is both cool and relaxed: the interiors are stripped back and the craft beers on offer are truly unique. Marvel at the exotic labels of some of the beers on offer (‘Dead Pony Club’) as you take in the decidedly hip atmosphere. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a chance to sample some of their guest ales from UK independents – just ask the bartender for the latest additions. Street-food style grub is on offer if you fancy something to eat with your drinks, making Brewdog the perfect destination for large groups and celebrations.

It can’t be said that The Potting Shed isn’t unique. Located in the middle of Edinburgh’s Old Town, the décor here is truly magical: think overflowing greenery, garden equipment plastered on the walls, twinkling lights and earthy tones. Don’t be put off by the intense interiors, The Potting Shed has quite the reputation for its wonderful selection of cask ales: with 14 taps and three cask taps, you know you’re in safe hands. Staff are always more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and are extremely knowledgeable in the realm of all things beer. Happily The Potting Shed boasts some seriously good food too: serving up modern Scottish cuisine (think Pumpkin Risotto, Black Bean Mussels and Sticky Sweet Chicken Wings) a visit here won’t leave you disappointed.

Just seconds away from Edinburgh’s famous Royal Mile, Holyrood 9a is home to some 25 beer taps. The focus here is on local breweries – including Loch Fyne, Tempest and Cromarty – and happily, there’s also a small selection of world beers for those wanting a taste of something a bit different. The inside is smart and vibrant, and the food is high quality too. With a decidedly welcoming atmosphere, encouraged, not least, by the friendly staff, we guarantee you’ll want to stay for more than just one drink.
