Bristol's best places for cake

Let’s face it, sometimes only cake will do. Good thing Bristol has a great selection of options for your sugar fix. We’ve pulled together the best of the best across the city for you to work your way through. You’re welcome!

The prettiest cakes you’ll find in Bristol. Ahh Toots first opened in Bristol’s foodie paradise St Nicholas’ Market and was such a hit it now has its own standalone cake shop and biscuitier. The ever-changing specials have previously included orange, hibiscus and strawberry sponge. Stop in for one of the wide range of vegan-friendly treats – from doughnuts to lemon meringue pie. Bespoke cake orders are also available for those special occasions.

Mrs. Potts Chocolate House
cuisinesCake

A Park Street institution, Mrs. Potts is the home of decadent chocolate desserts. The Mrs. Potts Chocolate Dream Cake, a four-layered chocolate cake with a dark chocolate ganache filling and white chocolate Swiss buttercream icing, is not to be missed. Or if liquid chocolate’s more your thing, try one of their famous hot chocolates or milkshakes. For that chocolate lover in your life, you can even buy gift cards. And it doesn’t stop there – with the Pudding Club and Chocolate Bar Workshop events, we may as well all move in.

For an authentic Eastern flavour, Bristanbul is the one. A Turkish patisserie/bakery, Bristanbul’s baklava sweets, cookies and puddings are all freshly made on site. What’s not to like? Open seven days a week, the friendly staff will be happy to recommend – if you can resist buying everything in the store. Dupangle (chocolate pudding)? Gözleme and Turkish biscuits? Vanilla and chocolate fudge cake with a side of traditional Turkish coffee? Yes please.

The Assembly Bakery
cuisinesBakery

The Assembly’s products are freshly made in its Old Market bakery by its team of artisan bakers. Ethical values are central to the bakery’s approach, so expect plenty of seasonal produce and purity of ingredients. With a seasonally changing cake menu that caters for all dietary requirements, don’t miss specialities like the beetroot and chocolate cake. It also has a Wapping Wharf location, so there’s no excuse not to pay a visit.

Patisserie La Reine

Shopping in Broadmead? Take a cake break at Patisserie La Reine, a family-run business specialising in French desserts. Open from 6am to 7pm daily, the sweet treats are freshly prepared every day. Choose from the cakes and pastries, and take a seat in the cafe to tuck into one of these hand-crafted, hand-finished treats. The menu also includes a range of milkshakes, if you’re that way inclined.

The Library Bar Tea Parlour
cuisinesAfternoon Tea

The Tea Parlour is one of Bristol’s most luxurious settings for afternoon tea which, of course, includes a delectable selection of sweet treats. The current offering includes mint chocolate cupcake, and raspberry and matcha macarons. Good news, it can cater for dietary requirements, if you let the team know ahead of time. Make sure you book in advance as, unsurprisingly, it’s a popular destination.
