This special occasion is designed to celebrate a bride-to-be’s upcoming wedding. And If you’ve ever organised one, you’ll know the stakes are pretty high, especially if you have a demanding bride on your hands. Selecting the right location for a hen do is, therefore, crucial to ensure it’s a memorable and enjoyable event for all concerned. So if you’re a chief bridesmaid or matron of honour, we’re here to help make your life much easier. Here’s where to go for a hen do in Glasgow.
Of course, hen dos don’t have to be all about drunkenness and debauchery. You may prefer something a little more sedate and creative for your activity. In which case, why not head down to the ever-so-cute Hidden Lane in Finneston, for some sculpting or pottery painting? Best of all, you’ll have a memento of the day to take away.
The venue is BYOB, so you can still enjoy a glass of fizz together. There’s a private mezzanine party area you can book just for your gang. Spin offers hand-building workshops and painting sessions, where you can make your mark on some premade pottery items with underglaze paints. Both last two hours and are sure to result in some giggles.
Make it a meal with a view at Radisson Red. Boasting what is almost certainly the best vistas in the city, this swanky rooftop bar provides a far-reaching outlook over the city’s landmarks. So if some of the hens aren’t Glasgow residents, it’ll be an awe-inspiring intro to the Dear Green Place. Radisson Red has an upmarket sophisticated party ambience, with an international menu of small plates, nibbles and puds, as well as an elegant afternoon tea offering.
Sip on oh-so-pretty one-of-a-kind cocktails, such as the signature Glas-Vegas Fizz (Makar cherry, jasmine syrup, lemon and Belstar prosecco) and Red Sky (Eden Mill Gin, St. Germain, grenadine, lime, cranberry juice, Angostura bitters and egg white). DJs play every weekend from 9 pm and as this is a hotel, out-of-town hens, as well as brides wanting to make a weekend of it, can book rooms and suites in-house, with no worries about trying to get a taxi home.
After she’s said yes to the dress, take her to Hummingbird. The venue offers a special wedding dress-fitting brunch, with fizz — and the bride eats free if there are more than four of you. Available Saturdays from noon to 3 pm, it’s a great way to make memories. Hummingbird also offers food packages, with or without several hours of karaoke; cocktail mixing masterclasses (french martini, strawberry daiquiri, cosmopolitan, or margarita; and cocktail trees. There are lots of private rooms to choose from, but the Posh Room and Glitter Room are arguably the most fitting for her girly do.
The Sweet serves as your own exclusive bar space at Hide and Seek, separated from the public by a heavy curtain. Or there’s The Treehouse, a covered and heated alfresco area open till 3 am, catering for up to 50 revellers. With DJs on the decks, you’ll be able to bust some moves, as you sample the bar’s signature cocktails and/or some champers. The glowing pink and purple mood lighting, trailing wisteria, fringed lamps and funky wallpaper make it an Insta-friendly choice. Also look out for special events, like the singalong ABBANoon Tea, which may be right up your bride’s street.
Combine her favourite tipple with some spa treatments at Gin71. While the brand has two locations in Glasgow, we recommend you book the one in Merchant City, which comprises the first-ever gin-inspired botanical day spa. Arrange some relaxing therapies, or beauty treatments for the blushing bride and her mates, then settle in for an evening of drinking and dining.
Order a sharing teapot like Berry Good, Berry Nice (Eden Mill Forager with St Germain Elderflower, apple juice, lemon, Summerfields Syrup and tonic), or some flirty cocktails like the Pollinator (Kirkjuvagr Beyla with Violette Liqueur, lemon and honey) and Californication (El Jimador Tequila with Cointreau, Velvet Falernum, lemon and orange bitters). Or if you have other plans for the evening, book a pamper package for the morning — Re-Gin-Venate is ideal and comes with a prosecco afternoon tea.
