The perfect Christmas Night Out in Belfast

Nothing says ‘Christmas time’ like drinks with work colleagues, festive feasts with family, and late-night soirees with friends. Happily, Belfast is home to several venues for such occasions — and we’ve narrowed them down in our user-friendly guide. So, finish getting the decorations up, don your glad rags, and prepare for a festive period to end all festive periods!

Italians are all in when it comes to Christmas — so where better to celebrate than Belfast’s beloved Coppi, a Venetian-style restaurant that specialises in locally sourced ingredients and chic sophistication. The atmosphere is perfect for those looking to celebrate the festivities with colleagues or family: the Christmas set menu is only £35 per person, and trust us, it’s worth every penny. Begin with the chef’s selection of ‘Cicchetti’ (small sharing dishes) and bruschetta, follow with one of their hearty main courses (we like the sound of the duck ragu with truffle and parmesan), and finish with something sweet (hello, tiramisu!). For a seriously refined Christmas ‘do’, look no further than Coppi.

Looking to celebrate the holidays in a relaxed, unpretentious environment? Graze makes for the perfect spot. Whether you’re seeking to enjoy a cosy dinner for two, a catch-up with friends, or a meal out with family — this restaurant is set to please. There are two Christmas set menus: a lunchtime three-course menu will set you back £29.50, and for dinner it’s £35. The options are diverse – from duck bourguignon, turkey crown, and sizzling Portavogie prawns, to curried butternut squash and lamb fritters – there’s something for everybody.

Howard Street is the perfect Christmassy ‘all-rounder’ as a food and drink destination. There’s roast parsnip soup and plump, duck fat potatoes for the purists; Korean BBQ pork croquettes and sticky braised puy lentils for those wanting to sample something less traditional. The atmosphere is both refined and relaxed — perfect for large family groups, and the prices are reasonable. Relax into the decidedly buzzy atmosphere and soak up the festive ambience as you sip on one of Howard Street’s well-loved cocktails: their white chocolate and passionfruit martini will certainly get you in the party mood!

This charming, bustling bistro screams festive fun. There’s both a Christmas a la carte menu, and a set Christmas menu, which at only £32 for three (exquisitely prepared) courses, is quite the deal. The menu isn’t huge – there are only four main course options – but we promise that the selection is top-notch. Veggies will enjoy the mushroom ravioli, served with a decadent parmesan cream, while those seeking something more familiar will surely revel in Hadskis homemade Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. If you’re only looking for celebratory drinks, you won’t be disappointed. From classic cocktails to little-known Hungarian whites and punchy reds, Hadskis is great for any post-work tipple.

Nothing heralds the festive period like some serious comfort food. The Doyen treads the line between stylish sophistication and cosy, traditional eatery superbly: this gastropub is suitable for just about any group looking to celebrate. There are cocktails, homely pub-classics, and everything in between. The staff are accommodating, and prices are low. What’s not to like?

The Barking Dog
cuisinesEuropean , Contemporary

The Barking Dog makes for a highly romantic Christmas night out. With its candle-lit dining tables, cosy wooden floorboards, and homely atmosphere, you’re guaranteed to leave in suitably festive spirit. Their Christmas set menu is extensive, and alongside some seasonal classics (turkey; homemade soup), you’ll find sweet potato gnocchi, beetroot tart tatin, and espresso crème Brulée. Customer service is top-notch and prices are exceptionally reasonable – the perfect excuse to treat yourself (and perhaps somebody special).

You’ve clocked off from work, you’re looking to unwind, and the desire for a glass (or pint) of something alcoholic is growing ever stronger. Where better to head than Deanes at Queens, a vibrant bar and dining room located in Belfast’s university quarter. There will be cheesy Christmas tunes aplenty, as well as an abundance of cocktails and other drinks to get the party started. If you’re in the mood for food, Deanes also has a special Christmassy menu, where you’ll be treated to a three-course dinner for just £35. The winter steamed pudding with brandy custard and ice-cream will certainly help soak up any alcohol-induced over-indulgence…

Little Wing Pizzeria
cuisinesPizza

Who said pizzas can’t be Christmassy? Not us! Little Wing Pizzeria specialises in Neapolitan-style pizzas and caters well for large groups. Think fresh ingredients, authentic cooking styles, and some seriously tasty food — all at a reasonable price! The 24-inch pizzas are perfect for sharing: from a classic margherita to a more adventurous gamberi (garlic and parsley base; sweet Portavogie prawns), Little Wing won’t disappoint. If that doesn’t sound festive enough, why not indulge in their Christmas mince pie calzone for dessert? Yum!
