Move over Valentine’s Day and make way for GALentine’s Day!
St Valentine’s is a tale as old as time, but one we find to be rather shrouded in mystery. Many stories offer different versions as to who the priest actually was with the most obvious, popular belief being that St Valentine stood for true love and romance. Tale has it that St Valentine was imprisoned for arranging secret marriages whilst such unions were banned by Emperor Claudius II. Valentine was caught, thrown into prison, fell in love with his captor’s daughter – a classic – and was sentenced to be killed on 14th February, hence why we find ourselves celebrating love every year.
In more recent times, your Valentine’s Day may not be so traditionally enjoyed with a partner, but potentially more of a celebration of love for your best friend, family, gal pals and beyond.
Whether you’re intentionally boycotting the traditional Valentine’s or simply want to spend some quality time with the girls, we’ve decided to create a Dish Cult guide on the best way to do Galentine’s in Bristol. Whether you’re looking for super fun, chilled out vibes, or glam Instagram-perfect venues, we’ve rounded them up just for you!
An Instagram-perfect venue to kick things off! The Florist is a super cute place, perfect for those prosecco brunch snaps, with gorgeous decor. Put on your heels and go for a cheeky cocktail – or two! We can guarantee you will want to get those Instagram snaps with the gorgeous flowers throughout the venue. With live music, a hearty brunch, and Sunday roast menus alongside classic dinner service, this is a perfect venue to please everyone in the group.
We LOVE it here! A super fun venue where there is no menu, Bring Your Own Booze (great for those emerging from Dry January victorious and wanting to celebrate), organic gourmet dishes and wall upon wall of fermenting food. The seating style is super social, perfect if you have a group looking for Korean fusion food. Find yourself all seated along one long table, with plates designed for sharing within your group.
A super fun, chilled venue to visit with your girls. A vegan/veggie diner with “food that feeds the soul”. Either head over to Om Burger for loaded fries, or perhaps a midmorning breakfast with fresh juices. This is a great place for those that are eco conscious, with the food being as healthy and sourced as locally as possible without costing a small house deposit every time you eat here. A cool company who even won ‘Shambala Sustainable Trader‘ of the year at the festival!
Yes it’s true, you caught us! We did feature The Ivy Clifton in our classic Valentine’s feature, but we couldn’t resist including it here for Galentine’s as well. It is the PERFECT spot to get your killer heels out, and go for a boozy Galentine’s brunch. Of course, sophistication is of utmost priority at The Ivy and so this boozy brunch is most likely to be more of a Champagne breakfast, but you get the idea.
A venue we have walked past many a time, and peered in with great curiosity. With gorgeous ambient lighting and girlfriend groups often seen dining in vibrant booths, Nadu is the ideal spot for good food with good friends! Absolutely DELICIOUS Sri Lankan and Tamil dishes all with a modern twist, right in the heart of Stokes Croft. There is food for everyone, with Nadu meaning “land”, the menu boasts brilliant, exotic vegetarian dishes, as well as fish and meat. It is a great place to start your night with perfectly paired food and cocktails. Perhaps join Nadu’s Plantation Rum Club – very fun – and continue on from here.
