Places in Bristol to celebrate Burns Night this month

With Christmas well and truly behind us, January can be a dreary month. Thank goodness for Burns Night: hunker down at one of our recommended venues for a night of good food and Scottish cheer. With Bristol’s array of events spread around the traditional 25th January date (the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns, in case you didn’t know), there’s plenty for you to enjoy locally.

Clifton brasserie and bar Browns is offering an exclusive three course Burns Night feast. The hearty supper includes Scottish mussels; haggis, neeps and tatties; and a cranachan, each paired with a Glenfiddich whisky. The three course menu comes in at £30, with the option of the three whisky pairings for an additional £16. Housed in the beautiful, former Bristol Museum building, with its stunning bar and cosy outdoor terrace, Browns is the perfect setting for a sophisticated Burns Night celebration.

Classy cocktail bar, The Milk Thistle is teaming up with food aficionados, The Ox and whisky experts, Glenfiddich for a Burns Night you won’t want to miss. A £60 ticket to its decadent soiree will treat you to two drams of whisky, a welcome cocktail and a three course meal. The Milk Thistle team is whipping up a special three drink whisky cocktail menu, with Alex Mills from Glenfiddich on hand to chat all things Scottish whisky. Save room for dinner ‒ the appetising menu features a smoked salmon starter with beetroot, cream, pickled shallots and potato drop scones; for the main, beef sirloin, haggis, neeps and tatties, whisky gravy and garlic-dressed leeks and greens; then to finish, sticky ginger pudding with whisky butterscotch sauce and marmalade ice cream. The Square Club

Bristol’s private members’ club for creatives, The Square Club is going all out this Burns Night, with bagpipes and a specially themed menu designed by Head Chef Aidan Fisher, and everyone’s welcome. It offers fabulous Burns Night value, with tickets (£4 for members and £12 for guests) inclusive of food, a welcome drink and entertainment. Kilts are optional, but encouraged! 

Bristol’s original prohibition bar, Hyde & Co is teaming up with Scottish distillery Bruichladdich this Burns Night for a celebration of not only Scotland’s finest beverages, but also some of the South West’s fantastic local produce. A £30 ticket will entitle you to three cocktails, a tutored tasting of the Port Charlotte range of Bruidladdich whisky and a selection of nibbles. With its reputation for excellent customer service and unique speakeasy atmosphere, you’re assured of a great evening from the Hyde & Co team.

The Old Market Assembly

For a Burns Night celebration free of food but full of Scottish fare nonetheless, The Old Market Assembly’s night-time offering is where you need to be. Tickets to the annual ceilidh come with a dram of whisky included, ready to get you in the party spirit. A troupe of Bristolian folk ambassadors will be calling the dances, so get your tartan on, ready to dance away any January blues.
