Spotlight on Pony Bistro in Bristol
Having recently celebrated its first birthday after being born in the Covid land of May 2021, Pony Bistro is an absolutely cracking venue. Based in South Bristol, we’ve come to love everything about this place: from the music and beer, to the food locally and responsibly sourced.
Family
Run by Josh and Hollie Eggleton, Pony Bistro is the newest addition to the Pony & Trap family, but very much with its own identity.
Established in a charmingly renovated warehouse in Bedminster and next door to the Bristol Beer Factory Tap Room that supplies the restaurant with spirits and beer, a brilliant atmosphere is created here.
Seafood
Of course we can expect nothing less from the Pony Bistro team than an exceptional seasonal changing menu featuring trusted, local, traceable produce, using its own Pony Garden for vegetables and herbs. With an emphasis on seafood by head chef Hugo Harvey, having worked in Australia for a number of years, the fish at Pony Bistro is caught in Cornwall and arrives in-house within 24 hours. You can’t get much fresher than this.
Menus
Cooking over open fire and coal, the flavours in each dish are simply stunning. The dinner menu is a four course bistro menu at the set price of £43.00; the courses start with snack, before moving onto starter, main and dessert.
The lunch is more small sharing plates that are reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! Expect to find the likes of Cornish mussels, king oyster ravioli, steak tartare, fresh local barbecued asparagus and more on the menu accompanied by organic and biodynamic wines.
Creatives
Pony Bistro is also very much a part of the Bristol creative arts scene. Featuring playlists made by local Bristol DJs, and the walls displaying the art of fantastic local artists, this is a perfect spot for creative professionals and families alike. It is worth noting that Pony Bistro is also on the Upfest street art festival route, meaning the side of the Pony Bistro is transformed each year into a new work of art by street artists during the summer festival. This year the team even took to Glastonbury, taking the Pony brand on tour and having a pop-up at the epic event.
It is definitely worth keeping an eye out on Pony Bistro’s social media and website, as the team is also known for throwing fantastic food events such as ‘Sunday Specials’ and ‘Shellfish Dinner’ at intervals throughout the year.
