Craving Currywurst and an ice-cold stein? Instead of booking a flight to Deutschland, cure your cravings in Liverpool with a trip to these five German venues located in the heart of Liverpool city centre.

If you are looking for somewhere cosy to enjoy some cold steins, cocktails and currywurst, you should head to Albert’s Schenke – Liverpool’s first wunderbar with an authentic German cook haus and bier tavern. The venue is named after the Bavarian-born Prince Albert and If you didn’t already know the word “Schenke” means pub or tavern in High German, so you can expect a proper pub experience. You can wet your whistle with a range of trinken (drink) options, including haus residents Pilsner Urquell and Liverpool Rein. They also offer a range of wine, as well as some classic and Alpine cocktails.
At Albert’s Schenke you will be treated to a modern day Bavarian and Bohemian experience that will not disappoint. This includes a selection of Alpine European dishes such as Schenke’s special pretzel boards and range of a wursts – customers love the vegan wurst with sauerkraut and mustard as well as the Bohemian sausage plate with traditional bratwurst, frankfurter, mustard mash and bier onions. If you fancy a large lunch or dinner, you should tried to pan-fried schnitzel and the schweinshaxe (traditional Bavarian pork knuckle).
Albert’s name has continued its reign in Liverpool with the opening of Albert’s Schloss back in November 2022 by the Mission Mars group, who of course, own the very popular Albert’s Schloss in Manchester. Liverpool’s Albert’s Schloss is located in a prime location Bold Street, where it has become the go-to spot for foodies and party-goers.
At Albert’s Schloss, you enjoy a delicious meal in Albert’s Cook Haus where you can choose from Schloss klassics such as crispy Stiegl bier-battered fish and chips and coquille pretzel pie.

If you are looking for a good time, the Bierkeller is the perfect place, as this authentic Bavarian bar has something for everyone. Inside the Bierkeller, there are three bars across two floors or four if you include the biergarten which overlooks the famous Albert Dock. All of the bars serve up the Bierkellers famous two-pint steins, giant cocktails and any other drink your heart desires – all you need to do is ask the friendly bartenders.
If you are feeling peckish after a few drinks and a game of virtual darts, you can enjoy some delicious food from the Bierkeller food menu or Shooters rack ‘n’ roll menu, while you watch the raucous festivities. There is always plenty going on at The Bierkeller including the live Oompah band , plenty of bottomless drag brunches, and of course, The Bierkeller Live with plenty of steins, singing and bench-dancing.
Another popular Bavarian-inspired bar is Kaiserkeller, located in the ever-famous Matthew Street. This German beer cellar and sports bar is popular with both locals and tourists who come to enjoy the cheapest steins in Liverpool. When it comes to steins, you can choose from some of the best on the market including the Erdinger Premium Weissbier, Worsteiner, Blue Moon and Maltsmiths.

With summer round the corner, you are probably scouting out some of the best beer gardens in Liverpool.
