Liverpool's best eateries for Twixmas

Wondering what to do with yourself during Twixmas – the days between Christmas and New Year? Instead of lounging about the house recovering from a Christmas dinner-induced coma, make the most of the festive season by heading to these popular Liverpool venues where you can celebrate Twixmas the right way.

If you’re recovering from a Christmas hangover, then there’s no better cure than brunch at Ma Boyle’s. Go all out with Ma’s full English with all the trimmings or for something lighter, you could try the veggie brioche with grilled halloumi, mushrooms and Ma’s homemade relish.

If you’re not completely done with alcohol, you might want to go make your brunch bottomless and get your fill of 90 minutes worth of mimosas, Aperol and more. You can choose a dish and drinks of your choice for just £35 per person. This is normally just available on the weekend but during Twixmas, the brunch is available most days – just make sure you check first before booking.

Looking for the perfect hair of the dog cure? Head to Albert’s Schenke where you can slurp down some top quality German beers and flavourful cocktails to celebrate the most wunderbar time of year. You should also sample the Bavarian-inspired cuisine. Featured dishes include the Schenke pretzel boards, Schweinshaxe (Bavarian pork knuckle), and of course plenty of wursts.

Albert’s Schenke also serves up an impressive breakfast. Some standouts include the breakfast bagel which is stuffed with a bratwurst patty, gouda, Burford brown eggs, bacon and chilli jam. If you’re feeling a little worse for wear from Boxing Day, you should try the Cook Haus breakfast with a classic screwdriver on the side.

Twixmas is the perfect time to catch up with the girls, and what better way to celebrate than with brunch and booze at Bold Street’s latest edition – Bamboo Brunch & Cocktails. This brunch spot opened its doors in August 2023 and has quickly become the go-to spot for brunch fanatics. The decor is equally impressive, so you can get a selfie or capture your pancakes with the perfect backdrop.

The great thing about Bamboo is that it definitely doesn’t skimp on portion sizes, so you can continue to indulge throughout Twixmas. If you’ve got a weakness for sweets, you should try the Biscoff French Toast, which is a good sharing option if you fancy a mixture of sweet and salty. There’s also a bottomless brunch menu, which includes any brunch or lunch item with 90 minutes of unlimited drinks from Aperol to beer.

If you aren’t ready to let go of Christmas once it’s all over, get your festive fix at Bar Hütte in Liverpool One’s Chavasse Park. Here, underneath the huge Christmas tree, you can book a cosy Alpine-style karaoke hütte for up to eight of your family, friends or workmates for £50. Battle it out to see who has the best karaoke song. If you have a larger group of 10 to 20, you should go for the party lodges, which are £150 and include a free magnum bottle of prosecco.

Families will also love the Santa Claus club at Bar Hütte. For an hour, parents can belt out their favourite tunes, while the children colour away while sipping on free hot chocolate. They will also be treated to a special guest – Santa Claus himself! There are also plenty of events to watch out for at Bar Hutte, which is open during prime Twixmas time on Boxing Day.

The Elephant Pub & Bakehouse
cuisinesBritish, Gastropub, Child Friendly

One of the best places to visit during Twixmas is the Elephant, which always goes all out every year during Christmas, Twixmas and New Year’s Eve. During the Twixmas period it’s a lot more chilled out, so you can enjoy a nice relaxed breakfast, lunch, dinner or even just a drink. Speaking of drinks, make sure you try one of The Elephant’s festive specials; last year everyone loved the Eggnog Martini, so fingers crossed it’s brought back again.

After Christmas Day, The Elephant will almost be back to normal, which means you can still enjoy the classic events like ‘Two for Tuesday’, so you can enjoy two pizzas or burgers for the price of one. The team may also stick with their weekly pub quiz on Tuesday, which also coincides with Boxing Day. If you’re on the winning team, the £50 vouchers will be the perfect belated Christmas present to yourself or your loved ones.

Looking for the perfect place to watch the football during the Twixmas downtime? Head to Fletcher’s Sports Bar at Allerton Manor, where you can watch your favourite team live on the big screen with a perfectly poured pint. If you are worried about the rain spoiling the fun, there is no need as Fletcher’s also has an indoor area where you can watch football, boxing and more during the colder months.

If you fancy a bite to eat while you watch the match, Fletcher’s is the ideal spot. If there’s an early match, you can line your stomach with a delicious breakfast barm or for later kickoffs you should try Fletcher’s stone baked pizzas – the FBG Mac and the salt and pepper chicken pizzas are a must. If the match is a nail biter, perk yourself up with some extra sides like the fat chips with chip shop curry sauce and the honey glazed pork chipolatas.

One thing you can’t forget to try when you visit Madre is the signature margarita with tequila, agave nectar and fresh lime on the rocks. If you prefer a frozen marg, even in winter, ask your server for flavour of the day, as it’s always changing depending on the season.
