Tom Kitchin's newest venue will be called 'KORA'

Tom Kitchin and his wife Michaela have announced they going to be opening a new restaurant on the former site of their Southside Scran venue in Edinburgh later this spring.

‘KORA by Tom Kitchin’ is due to open in the Bruntsfield area and will be the chef’s fourth Edinburgh and the Lothians venue, alongside The Scran & Scallie, The Kitchin, and The Bonnie Badger, located within in the coastal town of Gullane, in East Lothian.

Kora by Tom Kitchin is described as a ‘passionate celebration of Scotland’s land and sea’ and will feature a bar area and 65-cover dining space. The name of the venue comes from Greek mythology as the ‘Goddess of spring, flowers and vegetation’. It also represents chef Tom Kitchin’s passion for working with the seasons. The name is also a tribute to new beginnings, the significance of nature and using the freshest produce available.

It will be taking over the space left over by French bistro Southside Scran, which launched in 2018 but was forced to close due to flooding in January 2020.

Scotland’s youngest ever Michelin Star winner has said that some of his existing team will be taking on new roles at the restaurant and he will be recruiting for front of house, bar and chef positions.

Kitchin said: “We are looking forward to bringing our Bruntsfield property back to life with a new concept, creating a genuine neighbourhood restaurant with a real sense of community.

“This new chapter is a really exciting one for our entire team and also for the city. We can’t wait to get back into the kitchen and start cooking some really fresh and exciting new dishes for our guests.”
