Stonyridge was founded by Stephen White in 1981 after his return to New Zealand after a life of traveling across some of the most renowned countries in the wine scene. Among these countries were France and Italy.

His experience working in vineyards from those places has definitely done him justice, with some claiming that Stonyridge provides the best red wine in New Zealand. They also provide a variety of experiences, including a restaurant, sunset cafe, and wine tasting.

Aside from their wine, the restaurant is nothing to sneer at by any means. Located on a veranda, you can enjoy the weather outside while nestled comfortably in the shade, sheltered by twisting vines and surrounded by foliage.

The menu boasts a wide array of dishes, from an NZ cheese platter to venison tartare. Their dishes move according to season, meaning that this is the perfect place to visit more than once over the summer period.

If you’re just looking for a more casual drop in, there’s also a deck and olive grove, with no reservations required. Customers are encouraged to relax and order nibbles and drinks at the bar.

Overall, if you want to experience one of the world’s best vineyards, be sure to pop in for a wine tasting session, as Stonyridge is listed by The Guardian UK as one of the 10 Must Visit wineries in the world – and who are we to argue with that? If not, Stonyridge’s menu holds its own, with their food definitely worth checking out.

You’ll find Stonyridge at 80 Onetangi Road on Waiheke Island. Beat the crowds and book your spot at the stunning vineyard here to kickstart your summer experiences.
