Our favourite places to eat Mexican food in London

A country, home to margaritas, the Day of theDead, the sugar skull and most importantly, its distinct cuisine, there’s not a lot that Mexico doesn’t have going for it. With the bursting flavours of tangy salsa, the secret ingredients to the guacamole (most likely passed down from family) and the choice of meat and vegetables included in the dishes, the Mexican cuisine is highly sought after globally – and for good reason. And with such a vast quantity of Mexican restaurants across London, we’ve taken it upon us to curate a guide to the wackiest and traditionally Mexican spots across the capital.

With two born and raised Mexican owners, Jose and Mauricio, and a name representing the start of the Mexican revolution, 1910 really has the authenticity of Mexico running through the heart of Balham, London. Honouring its ancestors and Mexican culture, 1910 brings some of the most quintessentially Mexican dishes to your hungry mouths. The menu includes a brilliantly tasty array of mezcal, tapas and burritos and tequila to wash it down. Courtesy of Jose’s expert knowledge of Mexican cuisine and Mauricio’s incredible ability to bring these visions to life, the highlights include a Birria Tijuana style quesadilla (slow cooked beef brisket) and pulled pork tacos to delight the whole table.

El Pastor
cuisinesMexican

Sustainable and sexy, the small selection of El Pastor restaurants scattered across London, including Soho and Stoney street, is brought to you by the same people who spent a decade running a cult nightclub in Mexico City. Making tortillas and tacos fresh in-house everyday, using local ingredients, the restaurants offer lively scenes and beautifully prepared food. Whether you choose to share with friends, or not (we’re not judging!), the menu has plenty to offer, from tuna tostadas, to prawn or pork shoulder in a taco, visit El Pastor for something slightly different to the norm.

Ziggy Green
cuisinesMexican

Bright, airy and full of colour (and not short on plants), one of the daughter restaurants to the Daisy Greens, based in Mayfair, central London, offers a bite at every meal time. When it comes to Mexican, Ziggy Green knows how to get experimental. Tacos stuffed with fillings including citrus pork (with torched pineapple and citrus gel) and coconut prawns, this menu is one not to be missed. With its meticulously crafted interior and equally aesthetic dishes, the polished and sophisticated dining experience at Ziggy Green is truly the only one to be tried and tested in the heart of England’s capital.
