Toxteth Riviera

The Quarter has been dubbed the Toxteth Riviera, due to its likeness to Parisian-style cafes. On sunny days, customers come to The Quarter to relax on the terrace with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a slice of the vegan lemon drizzle cake.

The Quarter is known for its eclectic mix of people, from students and young families to businessmen and work-from-home types who prefer people watching rather than staring at their living room walls. This melting pot of people makes The Quarter what it is, as it offers something for everyone – whether you are indulging in a three-course meal or just popping in for a quick drink (which leads to one or 10 more).

Speaking of drinks, The Quarter has really upped its game with plenty of new cocktail mixes on the menu. If you love sweet and sour, you should go for the Lady Marmalade or the Watermelon Sours. If tequila is your drink, you need to try The Real Thing, which is guaranteed to blow your head off. You can wash this down with a refreshing Modern Classic, which will take the edge off or take you over the edge.

Family friendly

The Quarter is also the perfect place for a family outing, as the menu offers something for everyone – even the pickiest of eaters. If you are starting your day at The Quarter with your kids, they will love the mini English breakfast with sausage, bacon, toast, beans and fried egg or if you are feeling generous let them share your Quarter pancakes with berry compote, honey and yoghurt.

You may also want to treat yourself to a breakfast cocktail – just don’t let your kids mistake your mimosa for orange juice!

Yoko Ono approved

For those heading to The Quarter for lunch or dinner, you must try the pizzas. Rumour has it, Yoko Ono was a fan, can you Imagine? Enough of the puns and more about the pizza. Top picks include the Cipolla Capra, a delicious goat’s cheese pizza with balsamic onions, buffalo mozzarella and crispy onions.

There are also eclectic options such as the Marrakesh pizza with slow roast lamb, aubergine, harissa and minty yoghurt – strange but delicious! If you are feeling extra hungry, you should grab a side of patatas bravas – yes, another mediterranean influence.

Book ahead

The Quarter accepts walk-ins, but if you are heading there at the weekend, you are best booking ahead as the restaurant fills up quickly. If you want a prime people-watching spot on the terrace, head down bright and early, as these sought-after spaces are for walk-ins only.
