Located inside an old cinema, the West End’s Hillhead Bookclub is just about as entertaining as it gets. From drag-queen bingo to craft club evenings, the atmosphere here is truly something to behold. Happily, the food is also top-notch: from comforting classics like brisket and chicken-pot pie, there’s also a huge amount of veggie and vegan-friendly options on offer. The drinks menu is extensive, with unique cocktails like the Boozy Slushy Cocktail a popular hit. Staff are unpretentious and welcoming, and the prices are low. What’s not to like?

A bar, restaurant and club… located inside a church. You can’t get much more entertaining than Òran Mór! A stunning destination for some serious fun, this dining spot is perfect for those looking for something unique. The interiors are (unsurprisingly) pretty spectacular, with all of the original church features intact (think old stone walls, dark wooden features and crackling fires). The Brasserie Bar prides itself on serving up delicious, fruity cocktails while the Whisky Bar attracts those looking for something more serious with its stock of 250 malts. Club nights run from Thursday to Sunday, and earlier in the week you’ll be greeted with live music and lunchtime theatre. Happily, the food here is top-notch too; specialising in local produce and with set menus available, Òran Mór is not one to miss.

The Howlin’ Wolf
cuisinesBar
Tacos and nachos

The Howlin’ Wolf claims to be Scotland’s best live music venue – and if you’re into blues and soul, we’d be inclined to agree. Sit back and enjoy some seriously good homemade food and cocktails as you watch some live music (taking place seven nights a week). Expect impeccable table service and a warm, cosy atmosphere. All the dishes on the lunch menu come in under £6, so it’s perfect for those on a budget, and the fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce is not to be missed.

Bloc+
cuisinesBar, Grill, American

If hip-hop and electro are more your bag, head to Bloc+ where you can feast on some lip-smacking American classics (burgers, hot dogs and mac n’ cheese) after an evening of fun-filled dancing. There are some pretty impressive veggie options on offer here too, so we can guarantee everyone will be happy. Open mic nights take place every Saturday and if you’re looking for more of a laid-back vibe, each Tuesday the venue hosts the Glasgow Slow Club where you’ll be greeted with some seriously chilled tunes. The perfect destination to let your hair down and hang out with friends, it’s hard to think of a cooler – or more entertaining – destination than Bloc+.

Specialising in “tacos, tequila and techno” and handily located in Glasgow’s city centre, we don’t know anybody who’s visited Mezcal and not wanted to return. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients are the order of the day here and the signature tacos, burritos and quesadillas all come with a recommended cocktail pairing. Each Thursday-Saturday the venue hosts a live DJ set and with the large floor space, you’ll certainly be tempted to dance. The prices are great too, with a beer and burrito deal coming in at just £8 and a two-course lunch menu (including a soft or hot drink) only £9, we really can’t complain.
