London's must-try crepes

Crepes are the kind of universal food that can appeal to even the pickiest eater. Since the key to crepes is the filling, you can choose which style you want to go for depending on your current craving. Would it be a classic Nutella crepe to satisfy a sweet tooth or a vegetarian option with mushroom and greens? While these popular delights have their origins in France and French crepes mastery can’t be denied, London’s pastry comes close to perfection. Whatever your heart desires, London has it all.

Candy Floss Creperie – doesn’t the name itself make you drool? The creperie is home to sweet crepes with options ranging from classics like banoffee and strawberry Nutella to signature mango, coconut and caramel. What makes it a perfect dessert spot is the vast choice of other treats such as waffles and picturesque shakes. If a crepe is your first and only pick, don’t worry, the decent sizing and toppings are guaranteed to leave you full and pleased.

Priding themselves in using the best ingredients to create original French crepes, La Petite Bretagne is one of our top picks. The place might be small but offers an impressive number of crepes to choose from. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous you can go for one of the 17 savoury pancakes. Can’t decide on anything? Ask the staff to prepare you your own unique crepe. Of course, the restaurant doesn’t lack options for sugar lovers either. Whether you fancy a traditional sugar-filled crepe or a fruity treat, La Petite Bretagne lives up to the expectations. Be sure not to miss it.

If the perspective of having crepes isn’t enough to put you in a great mood, visiting My Old Dutch should hit the spot. With its colourful and retro design, the crepe shop creates a vibrant but cosy atmosphere. There you can explore different types of crepes – flat pancakes as they are advertised, both savoury and sweet ones. Vegan options are a great bonus. Our personal favourite? Vegan Sweet Berry Heaven.

Looking for something different? Kova Patisserie is a Japanese style cafe with a unique take on the favourite dessert. There you can have a taste of Mille crepe cakes, made of thin layers of crepes and filled with delicious cream. Apart from introducing Asian flavours such as matcha and durian, there’s a range of classics to select from: chocolate, oreo, vanilla, earl grey or coconut. The fillings are light and smooth, just enough to satisfy but leaving you craving more at the same time. We will be coming back for sure!

Designed to be eaten on the go, they are the perfect treat for someone with a busy schedule. Dig in!

For memorable French cuisine in London, La Petite Auberge in Islington ticks all the boxes. This fine bistro offers authentic, rustic dishes, which conjure up all of the charm and atmosphere of a traditional French tavern. Best of all is the creperie – delicious, fast French food. Rated the top 3 cafes in London, Drury certainly delivers when it comes to quality service, good vibes and delicious food. Previously rocking a Middle Eastern concept, the venue is now embracing a more British and European menu, which seems to attract even more crowds. Drury is the place where you can invigorate your soul with a nutritious breakfast and lunch. For waffle lovers, there’s a sweet and savoury option. The first one comes with caramelised bananas, Cornish clotted cream, berries Nutella and icing sugar. The latter is topped with fried eggs, bacon, parmesan cheese, a sprinkle of chives and a side of maple syrup. Which one are you going to go for?
Brick Lane Crepe Waffle and Churros
cuisinesDessert
Brick Lane Crepe Waffle and Churros is a cute café where you can enjoy a baked treat with a cup of coffee. If you need an early morning boost, try their irresistible Belgian waffles with several sweet toppings such as toffee sauce, Nutella, pistachio sauce, peanut butter and many more. Sounds like the perfect breakfast if you ask us especially since the prices are really affordable (5.50 per waffle). Plus, the interior gives off a retro vibe with colourful seats and brick walls, which makes it a great option for a casual kind of meet-up. If you’re having sugar cravings, you know where to go.
You can’t call yourself a waffle connoisseur without trying this signature dessert in Chinatown. Bubblewrap is a small space on Wardour Street where you can treat yourself to bubble waffle wraps. Back in 2015, the owners wanted to recreate Hong Kong street egg waffles popular in the 1950s. The launch was a success and the snack is now a global trend.
It’s easy to see why; the waffles are both soft and crunchy, and the toppings are generous. There are so many options on the menu to satisfy your sweet tooth; our favourite is House Matcha with matcha base, gelato, red bean sauce and mochi. Or if you want something more westernised, why not go for Vanilla Crunch with vanilla gelato, banana, pecan and salted caramel? Simply a waffle lover’s dream.
