Set menus are on the rise in the UK; the trend allows chefs to fully showcase their culinary skills and means that indecisive customers have an easier time ordering food. While having a limited choice might seem to be a downside, it actually means you’re more likely to be satisfied. Below you can find top set menu restaurants you should visit in Glasgow…
How many times have you finished a meal and felt like you ordered the wrong thing? Or worse, the meal was underwhelming and ruined the whole experience. At Seven21, this is simply not an option. Rather than offering a set menu of three courses, the restaurant’s approach is to serve an extensive selection of smaller plates, which means you’re bound to leave satisfied.
There are currently 5 courses you can enjoy, including dishes such as grilled paneer with mango pickle and tandoori yoghurt, roasted pear anglotti, gorgonzola and walnuts, and then an almond ice cream sandwich with caramelised white chocolate and blackberries for the dessert. You’re encouraged to add matching wine. There’s also a menu for vegetarians with the delicious delica pumpkin, salsa matcha and cashew crema, and many more. The high-quality dishes and the airy-looking interior will guarantee you a relaxing evening. All you have to do is book a table (the place is a bit compact).
Hooligan Wine is a modern wine restaurant where you can put your feet up and enjoy Mediterranean-influenced food with a glass of wine. On Sundays, the highlight is a 3-course set menu that includes a starter (think sweetcorn fritters), a main dish (the classic roast with potatoes, broccoli, carrots, Yorkshire pudding and gravy), plus the dessert (we recommend the cheesecake).
On all days of the week, the highlight is that you’re invited to bring your dog with you so whenever you fancy organising a family gathering you don’t have to leave your pet at home. Additionally, the restaurant caters to those that are gluten-free and vegan. However, it’s best to contact them beforehand as the set menus they have often change depending on the season.
Six by Nico takes a dining experience to an entirely different level and here’s why. The founder Nico and the dedicated team prepare a 6 course menu that follows a specific theme that can be either a place or a memory. For example, one of the most fun concepts so far is the funfair. Each dish is full of flavour and aimed to bring out happy memories (think Pork “Corn Dog” that comes with gentleman’s relish, caper raisin, onion soubise & pickled shallot, ??? plus a toffee apple for the dessert).
Another creative theme is the Mad Hatter. You can expect dishes such as “Off with its head” consisting of pork belly, choucroute, apple gel, pig head croquette, cauliflower & sauce charcuterie. The team’s passion, skills and creativity make it a culinary adventure like no other. Take a look at their website to keep up to date but once something catches your eye be quick – the menu changes every 6 weeks.
Considered Glasgow’s oldest culinary building, The Buttery was established in 1870 and has been one of the most renowned restaurants in the city ever since. It’s a place where you can relax in an old-school atmosphere; the darkwood interior is sophisticated and makes you feel almost like you went back in time.
The highlight is, of course, the food. The set menu consists of dishes prepared with passion and the desire to showcase the best Scotland has to offer. For example, a braised ox cheek, chicken & haggis, pan-fried coley and plenty of desserts to choose from (dark chocolate tart is an exceptionally good choice). As you can see, even though it’s a set menu, you can still have a say in what you go for, which makes it the perfect option for picky eaters.
Santa Lucia offers you more than just food; it takes you on a culinary journey and introduces you to the culture of Italy through authentic and delicious flavours. Thanks to the modern and bright setting, the restaurant is an ideal place for a date or meeting with a loved one, and the high quality of dishes means that you can really pamper yourself. Speaking of which, the set menu is what we went there for.
If you opt for the three-course option, you’ll have a few starters to choose from such as a homemade soup and burrata, as well as mains including classics such as pasta, tomato and pizza, plus the dessert of the day. All dishes are priced the same regardless of what you choose. If you like having a limited but top-quality choice, we recommend you visit this place.
