Exploring Edinburgh’s food scene means finding menus that change with the seasons. From cosy fall dishes to fresh summer options, the city’s restaurants offer something for everyone. We’ve checked out some of the best seasonal menus, featuring local ingredients and creative cooking, and rounded them up to create the ultimate seasonal menu guide to Edinburgh. Whether you love food or just want a tasty meal, Edinburgh’s seasonal choices have something special for you.
One of the original spots offering up a seasonal menu, Six by Nico keeps things interesting with a new menu every six weeks. Dishing up a degustation of several courses, each new menu is crafted by Nico Simeone and his talented team to make every visit brand new and exciting.
Each six-weekly menu is themed upon a different place or memory, so previous themes have seen the creations of The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Funfair, Once Upon A Time, and The Chippie coming alive right in front of you. While it’s harder to guess what you might be served before you visit, Six by Nico remains an often revisited spot by foodies for each menu – a sign of a good thing!

Argyle Place is a neighbourhood cafe all about great coffee and seasonal, fresh, delicious food served up in a relaxing space. Using fresh ingredients as they come in, the menu is ever-changing, all pickled, poached, or prepared with care. Whether you’re popping in for a quick weekday lunch treat or enjoying a slow Sunday morning, a brunch at Argyle Place is never a bad idea.
Our past favourites include their brioche French toast with Macerated Scottish strawberries, and whipped vanilla crème fraiche with elderflower, the Buttermilk buffalo chicken with blue cheese sauce, slaw on a Marmite brioche bun, and the Reuben sandwich on marbled rye bread with Argyle Place burger sauce. We also can’t resist picking up a baked treat for the road!
An established spot in Edinburgh’s Victoria Street since 1990, Howies is a classic Scottish bistro serving up fresh seafood and contemporary pub dishes. Their menu is a celebration Scotland’s local produce, working closely with local producers and suppliers to keep the menu fresh and exciting, all a low traditional Scottish price.
The Victoria Street venue serves up the likes of Cullen skink, their award-winning traditional haggis (as well as their vegetarian haggis), Scottish game with leek and cranberry terrine, beef cheeks, and pan-fried fillet of hake. Howies also serves up a great cocktail and wine list, as well as an epically long dessert menu with sticky toffee pudding and Howies famous banoffee pie.

Melt into luxury at The Witchery on The Royal Mile. Now in its fifth decade of service, The Witchery by the Castle knows a thing or two about how to treat a guest. The candle-lit dining room is full of glitz and glamour, offering a real treat to those lucky enough to dine there.
Their all-day a la carte menu is award-winning, and celebrating the traditional setting of the restaurant, alongside a range of classic favourites such as Tournedos Rossini, Lobster Thermidor, and Omelette Arnold Bennet. Additionally, The Witchery is a seafood-lover’s dream, often serving up oysters, shellfish bisque, scallops, monkfish, and sole. Everything naturally is locally sourced from across the country, with game from Perthshire and the Highlands, and Scottish beef from the borders. Everyone in Edinburgh has to visit The Witchery at least once!
