When it comes to soaking in far-reaching city views combined with a day or evening of drinking, nothing compares to the allure of Glasgow’s indoor and outdoor rooftop bars. Perched high above the urban sprawl of the street level, these elevated havens offer a fusion of stylish ambience, creative beverages and panoramic vistas that are sure to leave you captivated by the horizon. See landmarks like the River Clyde, the famous Titan Cranes, the squinty bridge and more from the city’s top (in more ways than one) haunts. These are the best rooftop bars in Glasgow for beverages with a view.

Located at the very top of the Radisson RED Hotel, the Red Sky Bar is a rooftop gem offering unparalleled views of the city skyline and a fantastic atmosphere to boot. The contemporary and lively setting provides an ideal spot for socialising and unwinding. Sip on artisan cocktails, craft beers and a variety of spirits as you watch the sunset over Glasgow’s iconic landmarks to the sound of the DJ beats. Whether you visit during the day to catch the city’s commuter hustle over a refined afternoon tea, or in the evening to admire the illuminated skyline, Red Sky Bar promises a memorable experience.

There are just two terraces in Glasgow that face south (and therefore enjoy the most of the city’s sunshine). And this is one of them. So do book a table in the summer months if you’re a sun worshipper and a fan of delectable afternoon teas. In addition to seeing out over the rooftops, you can admire the landmark building’s original brickwork and its chimney, which was designed by the tearoom’s namesake, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. But this space isn’t only for the warmer months. Covering and heaters make it a cosy spot when the weather turns, plus you can keep warm with a high-end cuppa, or something a little stronger.
Climb to the top floor of Glasgow’s YOTEL and you’ll find Vega – a venue named after a bright star. In addition to eating and drinking, you can go bowling in this rooftop bar. It’s fully enclosed, so unaffected by the elements, a year-round place to enjoy views across the city, including nearby Central Station. It has long hours (being part of a hotel), so you can pop in from 7am on weekdays and 8am at the weekends for a cuppa. Saturdays and Sundays see a regular brunch, with a disco version held monthly. Otherwise, it’s a hearty fare of wings, buns and subs to keep you well-fed as you party or head back to work after your lunch break, with an all-day menu available from noon onwards.
For a fancier affair, book a table at Windows on the seventh floor of The Carlton George Hotel. Its floor-to-ceiling glass allows you to peek out onto George Square, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and Buchanan Street without getting wet or windblown. Spend a few hours enjoying the views as you savour a refined lunch, a Sunday roast with all the trimmings, a decadent breakfast or a celebratory afternoon tea (al fresco seating is also available). The menus here are designed by head chef Alex Bullock, with an emphasis on local ingredients and Scottish produce. Get a table right beside the window for a special occasion or even a magical proposal after dark.
A penthouse venue on Princes Square, this cute gem of a bar features a cherry blossom terrace and a Vogue photo booth. Ideal for a girls’ night out, a hen do or a baby shower, October is known for hosting various events and special occasions, making it a popular destination for celebrations and gatherings (the balcony area is available for private hire). Look out for organised themed nights, live music performances and seasonal events throughout the year (Princes Square is especially magical at Christmas). Make a night of it here, with a cocktail tree and some dancing, accompanied by the DJ on the decks (it’s open till 2am on Saturdays). Then come back the following morning for a brunch of smoked salmon bagels and smashed avo on toast.
