If you want to see Glasgow in all its glory, head to one of its bars and restaurants with the most enviable of views. From sky-high terraces overlooking the river and rooftops to a ground-level haunt opposite the city’s most famed buildings; these are the venues with the finest vistas.

Widely renowned as the best rooftop venue in the city, the Radisson RED’s Skybar looks over the city’s most iconic landmarks; the Titan cranes, the bridges, the BBC HQ and Science Centre, the Clyde and the stunning old architecture of the centre. It’s a charming place for afternoon tea on a warm day, the sunlight allowing you to take full advantage of details across the horizon (see how many spots you can recognise from up here). Later into the night, the bar becomes a buzz of energy, with live DJs playing every weekend from 9 pm and dancing encouraged. Keep yourself fuelled up with small plates that reflect both local and international cuisine and sophisticated beverages.
Standing high on central Glasgow’s skyline (specifically, on the top floor of the Yotel), this bar was named after one of the brightest celestial bodies in the night sky. It has a funky vibe, with neon lighting, cocktails, a bowling alley, food and a line-up of regular DJs. The large picture windows allow patrons to take in views of the Central Station bridge over the Hielanman’s Umbrella and beyond. Vega also has a co-working area, with a series of community events, speed dating, discussions and panels taking place, as well as a themed brunch happening every third Saturday of the month. Like the Radisson RED Sky Bar this is a great place to party in town.
Its position on West George Street (within the Carlton George Hotel) endows the Windows Restaurant with admirable views across the majestic architecture of the Merchant City, Nelson Mandela Place, Grand Central Station and The Gallery of Modern Art. And, if the weather holds, you may like to take a wrought iron seat on the balcony for some fresh air. Come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner (a la carte and market menus are available), plump for an afternoon tea, or try the restaurant’s own take on sticky toffee pudding.
Proving that height isn’t everything, Farina Glasgow is found at street level, yet offers one of the most impressive outlooks. Set right opposite the Kelvingrove Museum, it proffers direct views through huge floor-to-ceiling windows, particularly if you get a window seat. Farina is a new venture, occupying the spot previously taken by Baffo, where Finnieston meets Kelvingrove. The family-run, casual restaurant is the place to carb load, with authentic artisan Neapolitan-style pizzas, traditional pasta recipes, soft-serve ice cream and more. Visit after dark, when the museum is lit up and at its most majestic.
Found within the Clydeside Distillery, the Clydeside Cafe specialises in whisky flights, as well as other beverages and light bites. The impressive building can be spotted from the expressway, perched on the river’s edge, with its glass still building an impressive sight. In summer, an outdoor terrace allows you to not only watch the passing water traffic, but to observe the building of the new bridge across the Govan, the city centre landmarks, and the view towards the shipyards, while getting some vitamin D. Come here on a nice evening to watch the sunset over the Clyde, as the sky’s colours change like an artist’s palette. Plus, there’s parking right outside and it’s free of charge.
Another option if you’d like to be close to the Clyde is India Quay on the edge of Finnieston and directly opposite the river. Just be sure to request a window seat at the time of booking, so you can watch the world go by. The contemporary venue serves authentic cuisine and there’s a huge menu from which to choose, which contains an abundance of veggie and vegan dishes. Service here is renowned for being friendly and personable and it works well whether you’re planning a family gathering, date night or an after-work meal.
Nestled by the tranquil banks of the River Kelvin, Inn Deep offers a relaxed riverside setting with a laid-back vibe. Whether you’re grabbing a pint of craft beer with friends or enjoying a leisurely meal, the outdoor terrace provides a picturesque spot to soak up the beauty of Glasgow’s natural surroundings. Indulge in their hearty burgers or flavourful small plates while taking in the calming views of the river.
Step into the elegant interior of Anchor Line Bar and Grill and be transported to the golden age of ocean travel. With rich mahogany accents and nautical-inspired décor, this stylish establishment exudes old-world charm. Indulge in Scottish classics like Loch Fyne oysters and Cullen skink soup, paired with a selection from their impressive wine list or signature cocktails while soaking up the stunning scenery.
Ubiquitous Chip’s rooftop brasserie and bar offer sweeping views of the city below. With its pretty, leafy terrace and a creative menu featuring Scottish and international flavours, it’s the perfect spot for a sophisticated dining experience. From haggis bon bons to succulent steaks, each dish is crafted using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Nestled in Glasgow’s vibrant West End, Hanoi Bike Shop not only serves delectable Vietnamese cuisine but also offers diners a charming setting with gorgeous views. Located on Ruthven Lane, a hidden cobblestone street, guests can enjoy their meal amidst the quaint surroundings. The restaurant’s outdoor area is adorned with colourful lanterns and plenty of greenery, adding to the enchanting ambiance. Food-wise there’s everything from fragrant pho to caramel mackerel with shaved fennel.
