Dubliners have been doing things in private for many years now. Whether it be your granny gossip-whispering in the kitchen about a family member who lives in the Schtates, a politician passing a brown paper envelope under the table, or a group of gentlemen drinking pints in the sung. In modern times, there are many places to dine in private in the city. Read on to find out exactly where.
Across from the Dáil, in the basement of a Georgian building, is one of Dublin’s boujiest restaurants. Pearl Brasserie is filled with caves and little hidey holes; they have plenty of private dining options for groups of all sizes, with dedicated menus for parties. They also cater to vegans and vegetarians for those that way inclined. Current highlights are the Pan Fried Duck Foie Gras starter and the Turbot main. The service is polished and friendly, and with a cheese trolley where you can pick your own cheese. Pearl Brasserie is a fine dining heaven.
Almost hidden under the willow trees on the canal, is neighbourhood gem Locks (leave your bags or cans at the door pls). The food is seriously banging and they have plenty of seating for groups. Upstairs are two private rooms – the Bewick room that seats 16 to 25 people and the Gold room for up to 12. Not to mention that they have the most beautiful bathrooms in the city… Fine dining that’s good enough for Rhianna (yep, she’s booked out their private dining rooms before), is good enough for us.
Located in a former Victorian Grocers, Delahunt is a lil’ stunner. An apple of Camden Street’s eye, Delahunt has lots of private dining options. In the main room, the original snug seats up to 8. For larger groups – the terrace is your pick, which can seat up to 16 guests. Keeping with the times, they are tasting menu only and have menus for vegetarians, pescatarians and vegans. The food is really something here, and a really great example of Irish cuisine. Be sure to bookend the night in their cocktail bar upstairs.
A cosy little joint on Merrion Row / Baggot Street Lower – Brookwood is a meat-lover’s heaven. It’s a great ol’ spot for groups with a private dining room located on their top floor. It seats up to 16 and even has a flat screen tv and your very own personal music system – for the night’s entertainment left completely up to you. Their 3 course group menu is €65 per person, which is not too shabby for this current climate. Their Sunday Roast menu is also not to be missed!
