Where to go for fish and chips in Bristol
Looking for a Friday night classic? Perhaps a post-visit to the Wave supper? Maybe you’re after a stunning fresh fish dinner date or something simple, wholesome and delicious? We couldn’t think of anything better than a hearty plate of fish and chips to do the trick! That’s why you can now find a Dish Cult guide on the best fish and chip restaurants in Bristol.
If you’re a Clifton Village resident, you’ll know that on a Friday or Saturday evening, there is a queue out the door for CLifton Village Fish Bar. The portions are generous and the food is absolutely delicious, making it incredibly popular with locals and visitors alike. In the top 100 Fish and Chip venues in the UK, we can totally see why. The staff are always super friendly and the service is quick. Exactly what you want on a Friday night in. Either as a takeaway or eating outside on the recently pedestrianised street. Classic.
With an epic range for vegans, gluten-free options, dine-in as well as take away too, Catch 22 is a fish and chip venue that has something for everyone. You can also get your hungry hands on vegan beers too, as well as a number of meat pies if fish and chips (or vish and chips for vegans) isn’t really your thing. Award-winning food with a brilliant reputation, you can’t go wrong here.
Rendezvous Fish Bar is a very popular, well-known family-run venue, in an ideal spot as it’s so close to The Hippodrome. This makes it the perfect restaurant for a pre-theatre meal. Rendezvous is open for lunch and dinner service, closing in the middle for a couple of hours. With great food and fantastic customer service, we love it here!
Stoke Bishop is the sister venue to Clifton Village Fish Bar, so you are absolutely certain to not be disappointed by your classic fish and chip order here. This place has an award-winning standard and a cracking reputation, meaning we just couldn’t miss the Stoke Bishop venue off the list, just in case you happen to be in this part of the city rather than Clifton one day!
Looking for a slightly “posh” fish and chip option? The Spiny Lobster might just be the one for you! Serving the freshest catch it can find from Devon, the grilled fish here is stunning. The menu changes everyday depending on the catch, and ranges from oysters and mussels to South Coast Monkfish. Sides include the classic chips, or you could opt for green beans or baby gem with anchovy and parmesan. The Spiny Lobster has been situated on Whiteladies Road for over 18 years, so clearly it has stood the test of time.
Another super popular Clifton Village venue where we recommend booking ahead! With a menu that features classics such as cod and chips, as well as prawns, scallops and mussels, Fishers is a fantastic restaurant. The menu changes daily here depending on the catch, so there is always something new to try! With a lovely team and a relaxed atmosphere, this is a great venue to visit with both with the family or for a date night. Open Wednesday – Saturday 1pm onwards.
Open Wednesday to Sunday with the highest standards, the plates here at the Lock Up are stunning! Family-run and with a relaxed environment, The Lock Up is definitely not a classic fish and chip venue, but more of a stunning evening meal spot that features the likes of Cornish cod, sauce vierge, shrimp and chervil bon bons, wilted greens and asparagus. A delicious menu, brilliant service – perfect for date night.
