The best Cuban cocktails and food in Edinburgh

If you’re familiar with Cuban food you already know that unlike in other Latin American dishes, chilies aren’t an ingredient in Cuban cuisine. With influences from Spain, Africa, and the Caribbean, you can expect bold and distinctive but not very spicy flavours. When it comes to cocktails, classic Cuban drinks are refreshing and the perfect choice for hot weather. Check out some top venues that will give you a taste of Cuban soul in Edinburgh.

Topolabamba might be a Mexican restaurant but it sure delivers when it comes to the most iconic Cuban cocktails: Mojito and Daiquiri. The former is a satisfying mix of Matusalem Platino, sugar syrup, fresh lime juice, and mint which is a good option for both a quiet evening and the beginning of a night out. The strawberry Daiquiri is another highlight too: a delicious combination of rum, strawberry puree, grenadine, and lime juice will relax you and make you feel refreshed. The venue’s décor is quirky and vibrant, just like Cuban nightlife. If you’re looking for somewhere to unwind in a fun environment, add this place to your list.

Guajira is relatively new to the dining scene but is already known as a venue that serves mouth-watering Latin American and Caribbean food. The owner of the café has always wanted to run her own place and Guajira is her (and every customer’s) dream come true: the interior is colourful and welcoming, and the food will make you want to come back for more. Naturally, our favourite thing on the menu is the Cuban wrap with ham, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, caramelised onions, ham gherkin and cheese  – not to miss! Visit asap for a taste of Cuban cuisine.

Club Cuba is the place where you can let all your worries go, keep your energy high with rum (the national beverage of Cuba), and dance the night away. The nightclub describes itself as tropical with Latin American and Afro-Caribbean vibes where you can enjoy a night out with a group of friends. If you aren’t a fan of crowds and want to try something new, consider attending one of their dance classes instead. For example, salsa is a very popular dance style in Cuba and a lot of fun to learn. Their website is currently under construction but the new timetable should be uploaded shortly.

Las Iguanas is a popular hangout spot for many occasions: whether you want to celebrate a birthday, dine after work or catch up with a friend with a couple of cocktails, Las Iguanas is where it’s at. Apart from being known as a versatile venue, the place also serves Latin American cuisine. One of the highlights is the Cuban sandwich with roasted pork belly, melted cheese, smoked ham, sweet mustard and green pickle layered in a buttery toasted bun. You can also enjoy 2 cocktails for the price of one all day every day with the classic Mojito, Daiquiri and Rum Punch on the menu.
