December signifies the beginning of the silly season and the start of the Christmas markets.
Ready yourself for an ample supply of great food, unique gifts and lots of festivities.
Embrace the festivities this weekend with the Shed Collective’s annual Christmas Craft Market, taking place this Sunday (December 12th) from 4 pm – 7.30 pm. If you’re looking for unique, handmade gifts for Christmas, look no further, there will be an epic array of potters, macrame-makers, a selection of homewares, handmade toys and body products – you’re bound to find a present for every member of the family. Once you’ve worked up a shopping induced appetite, head over to the artisan food and fuel up. Vege Bang Bang will be attending, serving up plant-based beauties like the spicy coli roti and the onion bhaji fritters with a quinoa salad. Luntian NZ will also be showing face with its divine selection of vegan, Filipino goodies. We cannot wait to dig into a big bowl of vegan “beef” rendang with coconut rice.

Glasshouse and General Collective have joined forces to create the most festive Christmas market in Morningside Precinct. The Glasshouse Christmas Market will take place this Sunday (December 12th) from 9 am – 2 pm; tick a few things off your Christmas shopping list or buy yourself a little treat. Peruse the stalls holding handmade jewellery, handbags, clothes, and artwork. When you’re ready for a break, head over to Crave Café for a beautiful bite to eat, we recommend the benediction with house-cured NZ king salmon, a crispy potato hash and a gooey poached egg. Otherwise, visit Morningside Tavern for a cheeky bev and a woodfired pizza.

Surprise your loved ones with beautiful, handmade ceramics this Christmas; the Handmade Makers Market is perfect for unique gifts. Peruse an array of pots, mugs, vases and plates. The ceramics are like nothing we’ve ever seen; they are creative, colourful and beautiful. The Handmade Makers Market will be held this weekend; (December 11th and 12th) from 10 am – 4 pm. The Wood Spirit food truck will be parked up in the market to keep energy levels high; the traditional Turkish Pide is cooked in a mobile woodfired oven. The famous baked flatbread is stuffed with a variety of toppings; including spiced meat, cheese and sausage.

Make a day of it at the Coastal Xmas Market, bring the whole family to Beachlands on Saturday, December 18th; it will be an action-packed day, from 11 am – 4 pm. There will be special guests attending including, magicians, Santa Claus, and other entertainers. The kids can play on the bouncy castle as the adults explore over 60 stalls. Enjoy real fruit ice cream and freshly picked strawberries. For lunch, dinner or a quick rest break, swing by The Franklin for a plate of Bang Bang prawns, chicken karaage or Franky’s hot wings with pickles and blue cheese.

The people of Ponsonby never miss an opportunity to celebrate the season and indulge in the finer things in life. That’s why the Christmas Twilight Market gets more popular as the years go on. Pop by this Thursday (December 9th) or later in the month (December 16th), the market will be open between 4 pm – 8 pm. Come for the shopping spree and stay for the food and drinks. A few goodies you’ll be able to buy are artwork, dried flower bouquets, ceramics, natural skincare, hand-crafted jewellery, babywear and pre/probiotic sodas. You’ll be spoiled for choice. Don’t shop on an empty stomach, the Ponsonby Central eateries will be bringing their A-game with burgers, noodles, pizzas, sushi and steaks.
