Let’s kick things off with Glasgow’s most popular Belgian eatery: Brel. Located on the super-cute (and super-cool) Ashton Lane, this bright and bold spot offers indoor and outdoor dining, fire pit experiences, and fabulous food and drinks. The menu is filled with Belgian-inspired bites. From moules frites served with marinière sauce, to comté raclette and tartiflette (a decadent dish made with reblochon cheese, potatoes, and lardons), there’s lots on offer. Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about the drinks. Choose from an array of Belgian bottled beers — we love the ‘Blanche de Bruxelle’, which is well-balanced and fresh — a cocktail, or even a ‘Belgian boozy hot chocolate’. Yum!

If there’s one thing the Belgians do well, it’s waffles! Hot, fluffy, and moreish, we can’t think of a better sweet treat. And where better to indulge than at The Bungo? Specialising in locally-sourced, seasonal cooking, this minimalist brunch spot offers some of the finest tasting Belgian waffles in the city. Drenched in syrup, and topped with either a fruity compote or buttermilk chicken, you can’t go wrong. The staff are friendly and the portion sizes are generous, so arrive hungry!

Described as a ‘genteel bistro’ with outdoor seating, The Atlantic Brasserie is a Glasgow classic. The menu is varied, with influences from all across Europe, with one of their most popular dishes being the Belgian fave, moules frites. Steamed, and served with Chardonnay, lemon, garlic, thyme, and dill, they’re the best mussels in the city. The frites aren’t bad either — piping hot and pleasingly crispy, you won’t want to share. If moules aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other tasty dishes available too, including various veggie and vegan numbers.

If there’s one thing that the Belgians and the Scots have in common, it’s their love of beer. Proud independent purveyor of fine craft beer, food, and entertainment, at Inn Deep you’ll find an array of dynamic Belgian beers on tap and in bottle. Not only that: there’s a killer food menu to boot. If you’re looking for the perfect accompaniment to your Belgian tipple, why not do what the Belgians do, and indulge in some ‘fry shack’ food, like fries, halloumi bites, home-made onion rings and salt n’ chilli whitebait. Larger plates include burgers, nachos, and tacos — all perfect for soaking up any excess Belgian beer!

The Waffle Merchant

The Waffle Merchant is potentially one of the cutest spots in the city to enjoy sweet treats. Specialising in freshly made Belgian waffles, this place is perfect if you’re looking for an on-the-go snack. Centrally located on Wilson Street (inside a police signal box, no less!), the menu is filled with classic Belgian-inspired combos (whipped cream, confectioners sugars, Belgian chocolate drizzle), as well as more unusual choices like banana and caramel, ‘pizza’ waffles with tomato and cheese, and after eight-eight flavour. The waffles themselves are super tasty — not too sweet, and perfectly fluffy inside. For a taste of Belgium smack bang in the centre of Glasgow, you know where to head!
