Sydney's seaside dining at its best
Sydney is the place to be when it comes to summer (or autumn, winter, or any season really…). Sydney and its many beaches have every type of water sport imaginable, and there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good brunch post-dip and summer surf. Here are all the top spots where you can grab a sunny seaside feed after a long day of basking in the sun – you and your tan deserve it.
The Fenwick spared no expense when it comes to decor, and it shows in the gorgeous space lined with brick walls, warm wooden flooring, and a sprawling high ceiling opening up to a view of the Harbour Bridge and Barangaroo foreshore.
The domed entrance makes a picture-perfect frame across to Luna Park, so dropping by for a midday meal after a harbourfront stroll is ideal. The menu here features hearty Italian-inspired dishes and you can grab gnocchi served with tiger prawns and green peas, butterfly baby snapper, and Jacks Creek sirloin steak. Window seats are the best in the house, and you can catch the ferry straight to their doorstep for a scenic journey with a perfect ending.
The Fenwick’s $34 gnocchi is a must-try.
Neptunes is a spanky all-day diner dishes out breakfast, coffee, and dinner to eager diners in a contemporary space. Glass partitions, hanging plants, and stone concrete walls line the space here, giving way for the cheery sunlight streaming through.
Seated on their outdoor terrace, you’ll have a birds-eye view of the waterfront with its sparkling ocean and volleyball players dotting the sand.
Food-wise, there are all your usual good-food suspects but with a Mediterranean twist. Expect the likes of beef cheek pappardelle, seafood platters, mushroom risotto, and a half rack of beef ribs. The waitstaff here are friendly and efficient, the ambience is top-tier and the food leaves little to be desired. Perfect for a post-swim meal, Neptune’s ticks all the right boxes and then some.
Get the $36 Grilled Atlantic Salmon on your order at Neptunes, you won’t regret it!
This Bondi institution is famous for all their seafood dishes, but their fish and chips in particular is a standout. The fit-out here is gorgeous with modern coastal decor and a casual vibe. Benches and tables make for a playful environment, and reflects the spirit of this friendly seafood joint: approachable and low fuss with a focus on serving great food.
Come fresh out the water, come in board shorts, all are welcome at North Bondi Fish, and all will love their gripped snapper and King prawn pasta.
The $32 Fish and chips with dill tartar and lemon is a crowd favourite and one of our recommendations at North Bondi Fish.
Soak in the summer sun then head right over to Porch and Parlour; This sunny beachside spot is a favourite haunt amongst beach-goers hankering for a morning coffee or sip and snack after a surf.
This nautical nook runs with a Mediterranean vibe, and you’ll find windows flung wide open, wood detailing, and an all-day menu ranging from sharing plates to brunch favourites and heavier lunch options.
If you’re in before 2pm, grab their smash & hash that’s essentially potato rosti, yucatan, greens, an egg and your choice or bacon or halloumi. If you’re after a sanga, they sling solid steak sandwiches too. Here for dinner? They lean toward a more small-plate-sharing style here, so grab a range of tasting plates to share with a group.
Dish Cult recommends checking out Porch and Parlour’s $23 pea pancake to get started.
Doyles Restauranteurs are a force to be reckoned with in the Sydney cuisine scene, and their longstanding speciality is anything seafood. Fresh catch paired with stunning panoramic views are a match made in heaven, and that’s exactly what Doyles on The Beach promises you.
The team at Doyles put a heavy-handed focus on handling ingredients with masterful skill that steps back and lets the seafood shine on its own. Patroned by many a famous person, this scenic spot is perfect any time of the day, but particularly gorgeous when catching the sunrise glinting in the CBD across the harbour.
