Glasgow's leading Scottish restaurants

We’ll hold our hands up here and admit that Scotland has generally been better known for deep fried pizza and Mars Bars than fine dining. However, that is quickly changing with a whole host of Michelin stars and Bib Gourmands winging their way north of the border. So, if you’re in Glasgow and looking to taste some of the best food Scotland has to offer, check out our list of the best Scottish restaurants in Glasgow that’ll really whet your appetite.

With a name meaning “a Scottish dessert made from fresh raspberries, cream, whisky, honey, and oatmeal” you’re not going to get a more Scottish restaurant in Glasgow than this one. Serving up traditional Scottish meals like Cullen Skink (a creamy fish soup from the north east), black pudding salad, smoked salmon, and Scotch broth, you’re sure to find something delicious. It’s well-known that the Scots love a wee dram, so be sure to try out their perfect-serve local gins, or wash your meal down with a malt whiskey, while sat in the dramatic surroundings of Glasgow’s Princess Square mall.

Despite looking like it’s escaped from a tiny lochside village, Rab Ha’s hotel, bar, and restaurant is actually situated right in the middle of Glasgow’s Merchant City. This traditional spot prides itself on warm service and excellent food, and always manages to achieve both. They like to mix international and local cuisine, coming up with delights like haggis pakora, Mull and Ayrshire bacon croquettes, and cod fillet in a tomato and chorizo stew. If you’re not from the city, we’d recommend booking a room here too, properly getting into the local spirit with their lovely rooms.

Scottish restaurants in Finnieston

There are few things more Scottish than seafood and whisky, both of which are favourites at The Finnieston. This cosy pub/restaurant with roaring fires and classic decor serves up a menu that would put more traditional fine dining spots to shame. Try out Shetland mussels, Isle of Mull langoustines, Barra turbot, or Shetland Hake, all served with freshly cooked sides like confit duck croquette and Drumbeg beetroot. Almost everything on the menu has an origin, meaning you know exactly where in Scotland your grub is coming from.

The Gannet

Scottish restaurants in Glasgow

If you call someone a “gannet” in Glasgow, it means they’re a greedy person who just won’t stop eating. Which is quite apt for how you’ll feel when you visit this spot, widely hailed as having some of the best food in the city. Focusing on seasonal food, they serve up local plates in a six-course format, changing depending on the time of year you visit. Our favourite part is always the cheese course, featuring a selection of fromage from renowned local cheese-monger George Mewes. Their drinks list is almost as impressive as the food menu, with a huge range of world wines, cocktails made with Scottish flair, and (obviously) a great malts list.
