Greg Marchand’s restaurant, Frenchie, has a modern, elegant feel, not dissimilar to a French brasserie. If you’re looking for somewhere a little bit different in central London for a birthday, this is one to think about. It’s great for an intimate meal for two, if you want to keep it low key, but it’s also good for a group of friends as there’s so much to try. The a la carte menu has everything from bavette of beef served with artichoke and goats curd to squid ink tortellini with smoked eel and ricotta, and toasted buckwheat. However, the most famous dish on the menu is Marchand’s salty bacon scones with sweet maple syrup, pop in a candle and sing happy birthday, why not?

It used to be a butcher that supplied the best meat and fish to places such as The Ritz and The Savoy – Now it serves amazing fish. If you’re looking for somewhere quirky but central, Darcie & May Green might be the place for you. It’s a floating piece of art, designed by the ‘godfather’ of British pop art, Sir Peter Blake. It’s the ideal place for a birthday brunch or lunch (they do dinner too). Their avocado on toast has probably been instagrammed by half of London, and for good reason.
