If you’re looking for a seriously sophisticated spot to enjoy after work drinks, this is the place. Brett has established itself as one of Scotland’s most exciting places to drink low intervention, natural wines. At the heart of this modern wine bar and barbecue restaurant is an open-concept kitchen with a custom ox-grill. The menus are led by the seasons, and the small plates make for perfect after work treats to keep the hunger pangs at bay. We love the chickpea falafel and grilled Brindisa chorizo picante (served with lemon and lovage). Drinks-wise, it’s all about the wine, and the menu is extensive. Fear not: the wonderfully experienced staff will help you make your choice, according to your tastes.

The Citizen is Glasgow’s newest and smartest bar, serving classic and contemporary cocktails alongside craft beers, wines and spirits. It’s the first location in the city to serve tank beer, and there’s a fabulous food menu to boot. Whether you’re looking for a cold pint after a hard day at work or something a bit more fancy (hello Champagne cocktails!), there’s something for everybody. The luxurious surroundings will transport you from the office and the atmosphere is always buzzing. If you’d like a bite of food with your drinks, treat yourself to a couple of The Citizen’s tasty smaller plates; we love the roasted garlic mushrooms and duck fat roast potatoes.

Sometimes, all you need is a cosy, low-key watering hole to return to after a day of hard work. Enter the Stravaigin: The Cellar — a Glasgow institution established 24 years ago. The website says that Stravaigin has plenty to offer, whether you’re “drinking wine in the restaurant area, meeting pals for a cocktail in the cafe bar, or al fresco dining on the pavement” — and we couldn’t agree more! On a cold and windy day in Glasgow, the venue invites guests to “snuggle in around the stove, eat haggis, and nurse a whiskey” — sounds like a dreamy way to relax after work! With varieties from all over the world, the drinks list is impressive. From vegan Portuguese wines to Spanish beers, Scottish gins, and funky cocktails (the Chilli Margarita is something to behold), no one will feel left out. For laid-back after work drinks with Scottish flare, look no further.

Ideally located in the heart of Glasgow city centre, Stereo is a live music bar and performance space. On the upper floor you’ll find an imaginative vegan cafe/bar, where you can chill out and soak up the lively vibes. Perfect for end of week celebrations, here you’ll find a plethora of cocktails, craft beers, wines, and lots of yummy food. Even the most vegan-sceptic will adore this menu. From comforting classics like chip suppers to less familiar numbers like deep-fried macaroni ball bagels (yes, you read that correctly) — there’s something to suit all palates. Whether you head to Stereo to dance the night away or simply swing in for a quick drink, you’ll always feel welcomed.

No after work drinks guide is complete without reference to Inn Deep! Situated right on the banks of the River Kelvin, this well-loved bar is home to a dynamic range of beers, wines and spirits from around the world. The drinks menu rotates each week, so you can’t always guarantee what you’ll be drinking — but this is part of the fun. Inn Deep is always packed (a testament to just how excellent this spot is) and the crowds tend to spill out onto the pavement next to the river. The atmosphere is super lively, and though you might not always be able to bag a seat, you’re always in for a great time. Enjoy your drinks with a selection of tacos, burgers or homemade pizzas, and wave goodbye to the working day.
