Spotlight on Pygmalion in Dublin
Pygmalion lies in the heart of Dublin City and is among the most popular spaces in the capital, especially for students and Dublin’s young workforce. It’s the perfect spot for a night out with friends, colleagues or a date night. From award-winning pizzas and creative, colourful cocktails to a fully fledged nightclub hosting some of the biggest DJs around the world, Pygmalion truly has it all. Here’s what to expect when you pass through the famous pink and black canopy.
Unique settings
Pygmalion is truly one of the coolest spots in Dublin City. From 12 in the afternoon until 3 in the morning, the outdoor terrace, overlooking Dame Street, is filled to the brim with customers enjoying Pygmalion’s live DJs and stellar pizzas. As you walk inside, you’ll be greeted with an underground club feel. Exposed brick walls with pink and purple lighting are accompanied by two bars. The courtyard provides additional seating and food from Pygmalion’s restaurant, Little Pyg. Upon settling down into your seats, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to a Berlin techno nightclub.
By day, Pygmalion serves its signature cocktails alongside some incredible Neapolitan pizza. By night, Pygmalion turns into one of Dublin’s most in-demand clubs. If you’re up for a party with friends, we’d recommend ‘Secret Thursday’s’ where the DJs for the night are unknown until they step into the booth!
Classy cocktails
Pygmalion’s popularity stems from its ability to create an ever-changing cocktail list, hosting some classics and bringing in new mixes. The team at Pygmalion are expert mixologists, who put time and effort into each drink.
You’ll find an array of cocktails on the list and we’re going to run through some of our favourites. Beforehand though, its worth noting that the team at Pygmalion is happy to stir up classic cocktails even if they’re not featured on the menu. For a refreshing cocktail in the summer months, we’d recommend trying their Tropicala 1920. A blend of orange Malfy gin, limoncello, and Lambrusco is finished with lemon juice and white peach syrup. It’s the perfect summer cocktail and certainly packs a punch!
Pygmalion also puts some unique spins on the classics. For example, the Black Barrell Whiskey Sour is another treat. Jameson’s Black Barrell whiskey is blended with Angostura bitters, lemon and orange juice, and egg whites to perfect a classic whiskey cocktail with a smoky finish.
Among others, The Cuban and The Red Velvet Mojito are some of Pygmalion’s most popular drinks. What makes Pygmalion even more beloved by Dubliners? Its cocktails are two for one at €16.90! However, we have no doubt that you’ll be looking for some food to accompany your drinks. This is where Pygmalion’s in-house restaurant, Little Pyg comes in to play.
Little Pyg
There’s only one place to start when writing about Little Pyg and that is their Michelin Award-winning pizzas. The pizzas are truly authentic, with Master Pizzaiolo, Enzo Coccia serving up what is arguably the best Neapolitan Pizza in Ireland; Coccia built a traditional woodfire oven pizza in Little Pyg especially for his masterpieces. After your pizza is prepped with locally sourced ingredients, and doused in high quality oils, they’re delicately placed onto the pizza dough. The dough is made onsite, giving a genuinely fresh and fabulous flavour to the pizza.
Moving on to their offerings, we’re going to give you a rundown of our favourite pizzas from Little Pyg. Before we start, going with a group or a date to Pygmalion is advisable, with two for one pizzas coming in at €26.90.
Little Pyg’s 4 Cheese is special. Hand cut Fior di Latte mozzarella, gorgonzola, pecorino, and parmesan is layered onto a saucy base with the option to add pancetta for an additional €3 (trust us, it’s worth it). For those looking to spice it up, the Spicy Little Pyg is a great choice. San Marzano tomato sauce is topped with mozzarella, friggitello Italian pepper which is sautéed in garlic, all topped off with chilis and pecorino cheese for the ultimate spicy slice.
Ultimately, Pygmalion is one of Dublin’s ‘bucket list’ restaurants and venues. Everything from the food, drink, service and music is all delivered with high standard. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere. Guaranteed good food, drinks, and music. Enjoy!
