Enjoy a glass of wine at the best wine bars in London. Whether it’s afternoon or evening, whether you’re feeling down or in a good mood, there’s nothing better than a glass of wine. It’s a perfect addition to every meal and a great way to start on your night out. If you truly want to treat yourself, pair good quality wine with an amazing atmosphere – the recipe for the perfect dine out is below.
Gordon’s Wine Bar has been around for more than 130 years, serving high-quality wine and preserving its unique 19th-century interior. Their wine menu is as hefty as expected with the red wine section being the most impressive, from Merlot to Chateau Moulin. There’s also a selection of vegan wines and low alcohol wines – in a word, everyone will find something for themselves. The candlelit interior and dreamy selection of wines make for an intimate space, perfect for a date. If you get hungry, be sure to try their cheese board which is great for sharing.
15grams in Blackheath is an intimate wine bar offering a selection of carefully curated wines, cocktails, and small plates. Open Thursday and Friday evenings, it’s a cosy spot to enjoy vegan and vegetarian-friendly dishes alongside a relaxed, social atmosphere. Perfect for unwinding in the evening, this independent venue adds a laid-back yet refined choice to London’s wine scene.
Looking for a more relaxed atmosphere? Look no further. Unwined is the kind of place that brings young people together, wanting to escape their university workload and pre -drinking before a night out. It might sound messy and loud but the buzzing atmosphere is so addictive it might be a better match for some, more than a typical wine bar. Enjoy mulled wine with a selection of snacks such as meat and cheese boards!
A gorgeous Covent Garden venue, with both outdoor and indoor seating, ideal for any English weather. Found tucked away in Slingsby Place, Dalla Terra is perfect if you are hoping to avoid a manic tourist season whilst finding yourself in the centre of town, or a midweek intimate and romantic post work date night. Offering a stunning and extensive selection of wines for all budgets, as well as brilliant cocktails and a delicious menu and cheese and meat boards. We personally love the killer cheesecake dessert here, or an afternoon Aperol and olives.
A fab venue hidden near Covent Garden square. A small, intimate French venue offering delicious sharing plates and a brilliant range of wines. A truly charming venue with a lovely team. Perfect for a good friend get-together that is relaxed and calm in a beautiful setting.
Finch in Brixton is a cosy, English wine bar that specialises in local wines and eclectic small plates, located in the heart of Brixton Market. The food menu includes generous boards like the “All Aboard,” featuring charcuterie, cheeses, olives, and other seasonal accompaniments, ideal for pairing with the distinctive wine list. The intimate setting and focus on English vintages make Finch a standout choice for wine lovers seeking something unique.
Gazette Battersea is a fab rustic venue offering a classic French menu. Close to the river, set over two floors with private dining available, we recommend Gazette for large groups and special occasions, especially with their offering of Galette des Rois, the ultimate French tradition! With a seasonal menu, extensive range of French wines and a relaxed atmosphere and great team, what’s not to love.
A fab Argentinian restaurant for brilliant steaks and wine. We highly recommend their private dining room, available for up to 12 people, with a relaxed rustic setting, perfect for intimate special occasions with family and friends. With a hand picked wine list, and a seasonal menu that incorporates locally sourced produce, Casa Malevo is a brilliant venue for good meat focused food and stunning wine selection.
A gorgeous little venue that serves a stunning menu of modern European plates. A quieter venue that offers sustainable wines, this is a perfect date spot. Dog friendly and found on the corner of Battersea Rise, and so close to Clapham Common, we recommend visiting here for an early evening drink and dinner post walk on the Common. With a relaxed atmosphere, as well as a wine shop so you could take a piece of Humble Grape home, we love it here. Be sure to visit on a Sunday for their Sunday Roasts too, offering a free bottle of wine for groups over 4 – win!
A buzzing venue found underground in the heart of busy Leicester Square. Highly recommended for a cheeky glass of wine during date night where you can be tucked away before diving back out into the hustle and bustle of the city. This venue really has stood the test of time, and offers over 300 wines on their list, accompanied by an extensive cheese range too! The menu is simple, hearty and freshly prepared, making Cork & Bottle a fab venue expensively in winter! We also highly recommend their wine tasting events, maybe even look into it for a work team event!
Once the office of none other than Charles Dickens, Plume in Covent Garden is now a friendly wine bar with a global selection of fine wines. This unique venue invites guests to mingle and relax in a setting that resonates with a rich literary past. Alongside the impressive collection of wines, Plume’s menu features an array of artisanal cheeses and charcuterie boards, as well as other small plates providing the perfect accompaniment to the wine selection. The flat breads are mightily impressive, with options including spiced beef with yoghurt, smoked aubergine with tahini, or our personal favourite – halloumi with hot honey.
