Belfast has come on in staggering leaps and bounds in the last load of years, and in so many different ways. The city's silhouette has changes so much from even just a decade ago. There's a real buzz about the place now more than ever, and a sense of pride in our achievements, in sport, culture, entertainment and of course, food and drink. We are home to Titanic Belfast, voted the world's best tourist attraction back in 2016. A Unesco world heritage site in the Giants Causeway. And Belfast along with the Antrim coast was Lonely Planet’s world number one must visit place last year. Culinary wise we have top restaurateurs including Michael Deane and Niall McKenna, and other famous names like Marco Pierre White and Jean Christophe Novelli have opened restaurants here. Northern Ireland is home to Jawbox gin, Tayto crisps, Punjana tea, Bushmills whisky, and the mighty Comber spud. So, our capital is booming with markets, music, festivals and food. Here’s some of the best places you will find to book on ResDiary for your day in Belfast.

This is one of the best places in town to enjoy the most important meal of the day. And with a menu featuring dishes you wouldn’t find elsewhere. Earl Grey bircher muesli, the Street Hawker, Huevos Rotos and ‘The General’, or if you prefer, a good ‘ol sausage roll with Ballymaloe relish. Check them all out on the menu here.

Coffee and Cake - French Village Patisserie & Brasserie
cuisinesBrunch, Vegetarian Friendly, French

This is my favourite of the FV’s, though not taking away from the other one, not too far away in the Queen’s Quarter. Whichever you choose, you will get first class coffee and the best looking and tasting pastries anywhere. Well, they have been making them for close to 40 years now.

Afternoon Tea - The Grand Central Hotel

one day in belfast

The towering Grand Central is less than a year old and is already one of the most talked about hotels in the city. Afternoon tea here can be enjoyed in the bright and beautiful Seahorse restaurant, or, for a little extra, head up to the top floor observatory and take in this beautiful city with stunning panoramic views.

So I mentioned Niall McKenna, well, this is his place. He has a few, and as good as the others are, this is simply a cut above. Arguably the finest restaurant Belfast has, a steak lovers dream, and on top of that, it is excellent value. A memorable night out to be had at James St.

Doyen - one day in belfast

Big and lively, loads of entertainment, and a crackin’ cocktail list. No other reasons needed to spend a night out at the Doyen. Whiskey drinkers, try the Penicillin. Or, for the more exotic, there’s rum and tequila drinks a plenty too, plus their own specially brewed Doyen lager.
