Your local dog dealer has set down roots across Auckland; Good Dog Bad Dog is taking over the world, the latest destination being none other than Point Chevalier.
Co-founders David Lee and Oliver Simon have created a menu inspired by good old American-style delicacies; by this, we mean extremely loaded hot dogs, mac and cheese, hoagies and tots. What is a hoagie, you ask? It’s the best sandwich you’ll ever have. If you crossed a sub with a burger, the love child would be a hoagie. We’re not drooling; you are.
If you have a hankering for something easy and delicious, then look no further. Get ready to devour the most flawless loaded hot dog you’ve ever had. Good Dog Bad Dog has stolen our hearts with these addictive creations.
You can’t go wrong with a Classic Hot Dog; the traditional frankfurter has a layer of onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard. Or, treat your tastebuds to the one and only Chilli Cheese Dog; what more could you want than a hot dog swamped in chilli mince and a pool of gooey cheese sauce on top? Take your comfort food cravings to a whole new level with the mac and cheese dog; that’s right, all of our favourite foods are in a bun.
David and Oliver obtained God status by pairing hot dogs with pasta; the carbs-on-carbs combo is elite. Throw bacon into the mix and taste the magic. For vegetarians and vegans, we present the Good Dog which pairs a vegan hot dog with shiitake mushrooms, fried tofu, jalapenos and truffle mustard.
For the ‘Hoagie’ section of the menu, you’ll find four mouth-watering options. The Cheeseburger and Double Cheeseburger; with a beef patty (or 2), cheese, onions, pickles and a generous serving of special burger sauce. Next is the Spicy Fried Chicken Hoagie, crisp and golden with a succulent middle, this hoagie is made with slaw, pickles and cheese.
Last but not least, we have the Chopped Cheese, made with beef mince, cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, tomatoes and special sauce. We would eat this every single day of our lives if we could, but sadly, our arteries said no.
If you want to personalise your hot dogs or hoagies, you can add on extras or make your meal a combo with a side of fries and a drink. Throw in a couple of side dishes like mac and cheese, tots, fries, coleslaw or a fried Oreo for a sweet finish. Our guilty pleasure is dipping the tots into the mac and cheese to get the best of both worlds.

You can find Good Dog’s new location at 4/1179 Great North Road, Pt Chevalier – open seven days a week, 11am-8pm.
Other locations are Ormiston and Commercial Bay (closed until Level 2). Good Dog Bad Dog Point Chevalier and Ormiston are currently taking orders online for contactless pick-ups; to make sure that Aucklanders are happy and fed. If you want to flex at your weekend picnic, this is the way to do it.
