The Ubiquitous Chip
cuisinesScottish, Contemporary

The Ubiquitous Chip is the restaurant to visit when you’re in the mood to celebrate. The interiors are pretty grand: greenery is strung from the ceilings and crisp, white linen clothes don each table. That’s not to say that the atmosphere isn’t friendly: the waiting staff are charming and attentive (though not overly so) and the restaurant is always busy, affording it a warm and buzzy atmosphere. Here you’ll find the poshest ‘Haggis, Neeps and Tatties’ that the city has to offer. Alternatively, if you’re looking to break away from tradition, order their Pork belly with Coconut Lentils, Apricot and Curry Granola.

With a short and precise menu, The Gannet isn’t messing about. Options include things like Pig’s Head Croquette, Duck Scotch Egg and Arbroath smokies. Indeed: this place is for real foodies. The inside is industrial looking and darkly lit, but don’t let this put you off. All the dishes are truly stellar, and the service is unpretentious – a firm favourite among locals and tourists alike.
