Did you know that Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe? This makes sense, considering you can find some of the best Chinese restaurants in Liverpool. You can find everything from traditional cuisine to contemporary culinary delights, inspired by authentic Chinese culture. If you’re craving Chinese food, you should try out one or all of these mouthwatering Liverpool eateries.
South Liverpool’s Tiger Rock offers the perfect space for students and locals to explore Asian food in all its glory. They offer a wide range of Asian cuisine, including Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese and Singaporean. The best thing about this restaurant is that you can try everything you want without falling into a food coma, as the dishes are essentially Asian-inspired tapas.
One of the standout dishes is the Char-Sui Fan small bowl, which comes with melt-in-your-mouth Chinese BBQ honey pork, pak choi and rice. They also offer Chinese classics such as crispy shredded chilli beef and a wide range of spring rolls including fish, meat and veggie options. You can even try apple spring rolls with coconut ice cream, if you fancy something sweet.
Lu Ban is one of the most talked-about restaurants in Liverpool at the moment, with everybody raving over the unique private dining experience. This includes the Food Lab, which is great for a group of friends or work colleagues. This is essentially just a party room where you can enjoy authentic Chinese food and sip Asian-infused cocktails, while being watched over by the resident skeleton waitress Lu Bone.
If you are curious about what’s going on in the kitchen of a successful Chinese restaurant, then you can enjoy your food with a view overlooking the Lu Ban kitchen at the Chef’s Table. You can engage with the chefs while enjoying freshly-made dishes that are ever-changing, so if you go back again you can try something completely different.
Chy is one of the best family-friendly Chinese restaurants in Liverpool, with a great team of accommodating and friendly staff. The menu is also catered to everyone, even for the pickiest of eaters. Chy prides itself on fresh ingredients, with all dishes offering an authentic flavour. Some customer favourites include the wok-fried sea bass, the roast duck and char sui and of course the Chy appetiser platter, which is perfect for every generation, including kids.
It also doesn’t hurt that you are surrounded by sophisticated decor, so you can eat great food in a stunning setting. This makes Chy the perfect place for family get-togethers and special occasions, so if you have a large group, it’s best to book ahead to make sure you and 26 of your closest friends can catch up over cocktails and Chy specialities.
Yum Cha is one of the newest additions to Liverpool’s Chinese restaurant scene, after it replaced the Lark Lane Chy branch, which was also known for its delightful dishes. Yum Cha has earned its place on one of the best lanes in Liverpool, due to the tasty dim sum, roast meats and big plates on the menu.
This restaurant combines everyone’s love for Chinese food (of course) and neon signs, which hang from the wall, while customers chomp on traditional so choi rolls and pan-fried dim sum, while sipping Chinese beer or tea. To get a spot on one of these seats, you need to arrive early, as Yum Cha only accepts walk-ins, although you can always wait outside, order a cocktail and peruse the menu, while pretending you haven’t already looked online and decided what you want.
Moving onto the other end of the city to West Derby, where you will find the New Orchid Garden – a family-run restaurant and local favourite. It is the perfect place for any occasion; whether you fancy a night off from making dinner, or have an important birthday coming up, it’s guaranteed to impress every time, regardless.
The New Orchid Garden has a large menu that could stretch all the way to China, but just because the menu is big does not mean the quality suffers. In fact, the restaurant is known for its fresh and delicious dishes, which is why they have so many regulars from across the city who always visit at least once a week for their fix of sweet and sour chicken or the fan-favourites soy-glazed pan-fried king prawns and deep-fried duck.
