Manchester’s Finest Bakeries

Boulangeries, otherwise known as bakeries, are the places we go to for that special bread, patisserie and cake. The best bakeries are renowned for their quality and excellent care in their food. Like all big cities, bakeries are important establishments that provide for their communities. Manchester is no exception to other cities like Amsterdam, London and Paris in this respect. and has a fantastic and large array of great bakeries.

There are the more traditional bakeries that serve you your everyday food and there’s others who have adapted to become half café and places for social gatherings. Therefore, in dedication of the institution that is the bakery we have created a list of our favourites, focusing on the growing and charismatic city of Manchester. Here, bakeries have continued to develop and have become even more important in the everyday lives of Mancunians as they have become places for social gatherings. But they have always been the best places to go for your quality bread, patisseries and cakes.

Barbakan Delicatessen is located in Chorlton, South Manchester. Since 1964, it has served gorgeous food. They are a national award-winning craft bakery for a reason. Their cakes, patisseries and breads are baked throughout the night at the bakery, meaning the food is ready to go and fresh for the morning. It is this dedication to quality that the locals in Chorlton adore about this place.

Some examples of their over 75 varieties of homemade loaves include the German Norlander, the French Campagrain and the Italian Contadina. As it is also a deli, they sell the finest European and local cheese plus olives and charcuterie. They serve drinks and food, such as ciabatta sandwiches and homemade soup. This can all be enjoyed, when it is warm, on their cosy terrace. Oh, if that isn’t enough, they also have their locally famous sausage pan on weekends and sell award winning Italian coffee. The Companio Bakery
cuisinesBakery

The Companio Bakery is an independent and friendly bakery in the growing and bustling area of Ancoats. They produce Viennoiserie, sourdough bread and plenty of patisseries as well. Again, all their food is handmade on the day so it is fresh for you. The bakery was established in 2015, however it was bought in 2019 by three friends who met at the School of Artisan Food in the Wellbeck Estate, Nottinghamshire.

It is owned by Neil Large, Phil Pryor and Baneta Yelda, who all have a massive passion for baking. Baneta, now a fantastic chef, brings her baking knowledge from her Assyrian Iraqi family heritage and her skills from her MBA in clinical science. Meanwhile former construction worker Neil brings his passion and skills in cooking and Phil advocates for artisan and traditional ways to bake. Now, you can see why this bakery is well-loved by locals and is heavily focused on quality. We recommend trying Companio Bakery’s focaccia, Salford 5-seed and their Ancoats White.
