The history of Renato’s is as rich and flavourful as its dishes. Established several years ago by a passionate Italian family, the restaurant has grown into a beloved fixture in Bristol’s dining scene. The founders, inspired by their heritage and the culinary traditions of their homeland, sought to bring an authentic taste of Italy to the city. Over the years, Renato’s has maintained a steadfast commitment to quality and authenticity, ensuring that every guest experiences the true essence of Italian cuisine. Their passion to only serve only excellence has earned Renato’s a loyal following and a stellar reputation.

You’ll find the kitchen is dedicated to incorporating their respect for traditional Italian cooking methods and ingredients, using only the freshest, locally-sourced produce and the finest imported Italian ingredients. Their commitment to quality is evident in every dish, from the hand-made pasta to the perfectly cooked meats and everything in between.

The chefs at Renato’s take great care to honour the time-honoured recipes passed down through generations, while also adding their own creative American flair to keep the menu exciting and relevant.

The menu is split into two a la carte options; the first being their casual, laidback downstairs bar serving up classic New York-style slices, and the second being their more formal sit-down restaurant upstairs serving Detroit-style deep-dish pies.

Their downstairs New York-style bar serves up simpler slices, with the options being cheese, pepperoni, or chicken. You can opt for a gluten-free base, and add on some Frank’s Hot Sauce, garlic and herb, or ranch dipping sauce on the side. A pint of beer is our favourite way to wash it down, but they also have spritzes, negronis, margaritas, soft drinks, and a wine list to peruse.

Meanwhile, the upstairs restaurant offers a much larger menu with starters, sides, and desserts included. Start with an order of traditional olives, padron peppers, chopped salad with ranch dressing, or cheesy garlic dough balls to build up an appetite for the main affair. Their Detroit-style pizzas are a deep-dish crust with crispy edges and mouth-watering toppings. They have six different flavours, including toppings such as an entire Italian burrata, hot honey, plant-based chicken and pepperoni, garlic chestnut mushrooms, creamy blue cheese, and truffle oil. You can also make your deep-dish pizza gluten-free.

For dessert, you cannot go wrong with a classic creamy tiramisu – though their key lime pie is also unmissable in our books! If you’re feeling particularly traditional, add on a shot of Limoncello to seal the deal.

Renato’s is all about family – so relax and unwind with your chosen family, whether you’re around for some casual bevvy’s in the downstairs pizzeria or looking for a sit-down get-together upstairs in the restaurant. Renato’s provides a beautiful and comfortable backdrop for a delicious meal with loved ones.
