Lunch in Fitzrovia, London
Whether you’re popping out from the office and looking for something easy, or you’re going for a long lazy meal with some wine, there are plenty of great places for lunch in Fitzrovia. It might be known as a pretty upmarket neighbourhood but our list has something for everyone from yummy mummies to skint students.
Michelin-starred The Ninth is one of the jewels in Fitzrovia’s fairly-glittery crown. Chef-owner Jun Tanaka has worked with big names like Marco Pierre White and the Roux Brothers, and it shows in his amazing food. Before you panic and think this might cost more than your monthly grocery shop, The Ninth has actually recently been named one of the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurants in the world. Two “plates” are just £21, and you can choose from food like squid ink linguini with mussels and baby squid, crispy guinea fowl with char-grilled sweet corn salad, and grilled sardines with tomato, sourdough, and herb vinaigrette.
Sister restaurant to the uber cool Honey & Co, Honey and Smoke is run by charismatic couple Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich. The pair met working in kitchens together, and now, very much in love, run restaurants with food they love. The Middle Eastern inspired menu features treats you’ll recognise like chicken fatayer and tuna shish, and others you definitely won’t. It’s their desserts that people fawn over though, with their feta and honey cheesecake proclaimed by food reviewers as one of their all-time favourite puds. Remember to pick up one of their cookbooks “Honey & Co: Food from the Middle East” while you’re there, and recreate the magic at home.
If you’re looking for a delicious lunch in Fitzrovia, let us introduce you to Lantana Cafe. It’s the perfect place if you don’t want a long drawn-out meal, serving up plates like fish tacos, pulled pork baps, and corn fritters to an adoring public. Opening in London in 2008, these guys wanted to bring Australian cafe culture to the UK, and have been so successful in doing so that they now have three venues across London. Alongside their amazing food, they also serve expertly-made coffees, and delicious cakes that are perfect for taking back to work for a mid-afternoon snack.
